Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CICU/CVICU) - Nights

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 16 weeks


Job Details

  • Unit: Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) / Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU)
  • Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
  • Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
  • Floating: Required within specialty and to lower acuity units as needed
  • On-call: Scheduled on-call shifts not required
  • Patient Population: Adults and Geriatrics
  • Patient Ratio: 1:1, up to 1:3 with stable, lower acuity patients
  • Unit Size: 15 beds, average daily census ~10

Experience & Licensure Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - CICU/CVICU
  • Required Experience: Minimum 2 years in CVICU (will accept first-time travelers with strong CVICU skills)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required (first-time travelers accepted)
  • Licenses/Certifications:
    • Maryland RN State License
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute)
    • NIH Stroke Certification
    • CCRN preferred but not required

Clinical Skills & Procedures

  • Care for patients with diagnoses including:
    • Cardiogenic shock, cardiac arrest, heart failure, cardiac arrhythmias (heart blocks, rhythm disruptions), myocardial infarction (MI), pulmonary hypertension (PH)
    • Advanced therapy workups: LVAD, heart transplants
    • Mechanical support devices: IABP, Impella
    • Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, hypertensive urgency/emergency
  • Procedures performed:
    • Bedside central line and arterial line insertions
    • Bronchoscopy assistance
    • Chest tube insertion
    • Swan-Ganz/PA catheter insertion
    • Targeted temperature management
    • Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT)

Equipment Used

  • Impella, Ventricular Assist Device (VAD), Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump (IABP)
  • CRRT machines
  • Ventilators
  • Cooling devices
  • Continuous Cardiac Output (CCO) monitors

Uniform

  • Scrub color: Navy blue (pink for trauma assignments)
  • Pediatric department: Navy blue scrub pants with child-friendly tops
  • Undershirt: White short sleeve or navy long sleeve (pink if wearing pink scrubs)
  • Business casual allowed in some departments (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide checks, sex offender registry, OFAC, education verification
  • State-specific exclusions list check (Maryland Medicaid Sanctioned Providers List)
  • Physical exam within 1 year including latex allergy questionnaire and TB screening
  • Negative drug screen (9-panel) within 30 days prior to start
  • Immunizations/vaccinations:
    • Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption (required during flu season)
    • COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking
    • Proof of immunity or vaccination for Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B
  • Fit mask test within 1 year
  • Two supervisory references within 1 year
  • Employment application/resume within 30 days of start
  • Work history verification for previous 5 years (attestation accepted if necessary)
  • Competency exams including medication/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, age-specific competency, and color blindness testing as applicable

Additional Notes

  • Epic Portfolio Training Test Out available for eligible candidates with recent Epic experience
  • Candidates must sign job description and confidentiality agreement prior to start
  • Security ID application must be completed within 72 hours of signing contract

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced CICU/CVICU nurses or strong first-time travelers to provide specialized care in a high-acuity cardiac unit during night shifts.
