Job Opportunity: Surgical Technician (Surg Tech - 7010)

Location: Wheeling, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Requirements & Qualifications

• Certification:

  • NBSTSA certification not required.
  • Sterile Processing certification preferred (IAHCSMM or CBSPD accepted).
• Experience:

  • Prior acute OR experience is a must.
  • Previous travel experience preferred for sterile processing roles.
• Licensing:

  • Must have a valid, unexpired driver’s license.
  • Any licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission.
• BLS (AHA) certification required.

Work Environment & Schedule

• Unit: Operating Room (OR), including Endoscopy and Cardiovascular OR (CVOR).
• OR Suites:

  • 11 OR suites total.
  • 2 CVOR suites, 5 Endoscopy suites.
• Cases per day:

  • Main OR: 35-40 cases.
  • Endoscopy: 20-30 cases.
  • CVOR: 1 case per day.
• Shifts:

  • 8, 10, and 16-hour shifts available.
  • 12 circulators per shift to run rooms and provide breaks (average 10-11).
• Weekend Requirements:

  • CSTs and RNs have similar weekend schedules, typically 2 weekend days per month.
• Call Requirements:

  • 24-hour call coverage on either Saturday or Sunday, 1-2 days per month.
  • 45-minute response time for call.
• Holidays:

  • Call sign-up via vacation book if needed.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Assist in a variety of surgical cases including:

  • Orthopedic total joint replacements and revisions (required).
  • General surgery, colorectal, gynecology, neurology (preferred), ENT, vascular (preferred), thoracic, podiatry (1 day/week).
  • Robotic gastric sleeve surgeries.
• Scrubbing and holding retractors for RNs is highly preferred; bonus if able to scrub.
• Use of Steris and Sterrad autoclave systems for instrument sterilization.
• Work closely with sterile processing and instrument tech departments.
• Orientation includes general hospital and floor-specific training.

Additional Information

• EMR system used: Picis OR Manager.
• Call coverage includes trauma team and open heart surgery call.
• Tele-endoscopy coverage Monday-Friday, 7 am - 3 pm, no call.
• Advanced endoscopy procedures performed frequently (ERCP, EUS, resections).
• Staffed 24/7 with surgeons in-house; call is for additional crew during nights and weekends.
• Must be able to work within a 50-mile radius rule.

Note: Prior travel experience is preferred for sterile processing roles but not explicitly required for the surgical tech position.
