Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Oncology

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Oncology
  • Shift: 4x12 or 3x12 day shifts (7:15 AM - 6:45 PM), flexible to accommodate 3x12s
  • Average Daily Census: 24 patients (24 rooms/beds)
  • Years of Experience Required: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • First-time Travelers: Accepted
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Certifications: Chemotherapy certification preferred
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: Will float within scope as needed
  • Block Schedule: Open to discussion with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • Licensure: Must have active Illinois nursing license or be in the application process
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Chemotherapy Skills/Experience

  • Administration of chemotherapy
  • Body fluid handling post-chemotherapy
  • Continuous infusion of chemotherapy
  • IV push administration of chemotherapy
  • Management and disposal of cytotoxic spills
  • Monitoring chemotherapy
  • Oral administration of chemotherapy
  • Recognizing and communicating abnormal lab values

IV Therapy/Infusion Skills/Experience

  • Accessing ports
  • Administration of coagulation factors, antifungals, antivirals, blood/blood products
  • Care and management of ports and central lines
  • Central line blood draws
  • PICC line care
  • Starting IVs

Certifications Required

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI acceptable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - if applicable, AHA or RQI acceptable
  • State License Verification (Primary Source Verification)
  • NURSYS Verification (RN, LPN/LVN, AP)
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Background check within 30 days of start covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
  • Fingerprinting through Illinois Health Care Worker Registry (must be done in Illinois, 3 business days prior to start)
  • Education verification (degree verification required)
  • State-specific searches including Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and State Police registries within 30 days of start

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test (3M1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+) required
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • TB questionnaire updated annually
  • Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually

Additional Requirements

  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
  • Skills checklist required for clinical candidates
  • Two professional references required for clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required within one week of signing contract
  • Code of Conduct acknowledgment within 7 days of contract signing
  • Parking permit form to be completed within 7 days of contract signing (if applicable)

Notes

  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required for this position.
  • Guaranteed hours: Client may call off up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts.
  • Candidates must be prepared to float as needed within their scope of practice.
