Description
Job Opportunity: Med/Tele/PCU RN
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- ACLS
- BLS
Experience Requirements
- Must have PCU experience
- Tele/cardiac RN experience required
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac strips
- Epic experience preferred
- First-time travelers are acceptable (prior travel experience not required)
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Med/Tele/PCU (more of a tele/cardiac unit)
- Number of Beds: 32
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Day: 1:4-5
- Night: occasional 5-6
- PCU level care overflow: 1:3
- Common Patient Diagnoses:
- Adults and geriatrics
- Cardiac caths, EP studies, pacemakers
- Alcohol-related conditions
- COVID-19 (including Bipap)
- General surgical patients with heart history
- Medical patients with cardiac history
- Pneumonia (including COVID)
- Acute on chronic conditions
- Influenza
- Sepsis
Skills and Responsibilities
- RN required to titrate drips (Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitro, Nipride, Lasix, low dose Dopamine; no Levophed)
- RN must read and interpret cardiac strips independently
- Troubleshooting respiratory equipment such as Bipap, trachs, Airvo
- Charge nurse present on both shifts, occasionally takes a light patient load
- Nurse aides/patient care techs available (goal ratio 1:10)
- Tele/Monitor techs present at nurses station and portable monitors in rooms
Scheduling
- Shifts: 7am-7pm and 7pm-7am
- Rotation: 7-7 rotation will not occur more than once weekly
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating: Required to float to PCU, Med/Surg, and some ER holds/boarding
Orientation
- Unit-specific orientation: 2 shifts (12 hours each)
- Orientation scheduled Friday and Saturday of first week; independent by Sunday
Additional Information
- Scrub color: Any color allowed
- Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
- Return to Office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start
