Nursing Contract Opportunity - Sitka, Alaska
Position Summary
- Coordinate and perform a variety of nursing care procedures for patients of all ages.
- Work independently to complete assignments following provider orders, standards of care, nursing policies, and hospital procedures.
- Provide support to patients and families, ensuring safe, therapeutic, and efficient care.
- Make clinical decisions independently during shifts and maintain accountability.
- Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs/Techs.
- React calmly and make sound nursing judgments in emergency situations.
Key Responsibilities
- Implement nursing care for patients with multisystem diseases and treatment complications.
- Set priorities based on patient acuity and preferences.
- Manage and document nursing procedures consistent with scientific principles and departmental policies.
- Administer age-specific medications and therapeutics accurately.
- Coordinate patient care activities with physicians and healthcare team members.
- Educate patients and families about tests, procedures, disease processes, and coping strategies.
- Provide counseling and psychosocial support, utilizing other healthcare professionals as needed.
- Perform thorough nursing assessments including cognitive, physical, emotional, and developmental needs.
- Develop, implement, and document individualized nursing care plans.
- Participate in patient care conferences and educational programs.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
- Provide leadership and guidance to staff, including orientation of new staff and travelers.
- Participate in departmental meetings and comply with scheduling and competency requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Licensure: Valid, current, full, and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska at time of submission.
- Certifications:
- BLS and PALS required upon hire.
- ACLS must be obtained within 6 months of hire.
- TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications depending on specialty area, to be obtained within first 6 months and renewed bi-annually.
- Experience:
- Minimum 1 year clinical nursing experience preferred.
- Prior experience in the specialty area preferred.
- Skills & Knowledge:
- Nursing care principles, diagnosis, and processes including specialty areas.
- Ability to recognize and respond promptly to emergent patient conditions.
- Knowledge of pharmaceuticals, side effects, and complications.
- Proficiency with medical equipment (defibrillators, monitors, ventilators, etc.).
- Ability to assist with emergency procedures (intubations, arterial line setup, thoracentesis, etc.).
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Leadership and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to implement evidence-based nursing interventions and life-saving procedures.
