Job Summary: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)

  • Patient Mix: All OR specialties except Open Heart
  • Call: 2 times per schedule
  • Responsibilities: Must be able to circulate and scrub in the OR
  • Required Experience:
    • Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience
    • Experience in robotic and ENT procedures required
    • Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Scrubs provided
  • Charting System: EPIC

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA required, RQI and instructor cards acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - Required for adult critical care units, ED, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D; preferred for Behavioral Health
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, Newborn, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, and Special Care Nursery
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) - Required as applicable for adult and pediatric chemo certified nurses
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) - Beginner and Intermediate levels required for Mother-Baby and L&D RNs
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - Required for ER, Pediatric ER, and Behavioral Health RNs (online and in-person training)
  • NIH Stroke Certification - Required for adult critical care specialties, ED, Telemetry, MS/Tele, Cath Lab, and stroke centers
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit assignment

Required Documents & Compliance

  • Work History: 7 years of work history required; must include verification and references (2 references within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference)
  • Skills Checklist: Scrub and circulate skills checklist must be submitted and updated annually
  • Background Checks: Criminal background check within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
  • Drug Screen: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
    • TB test (blood or skin) within 3 months of start or documented history of positive with clearance
    • Immunizations: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (all with appropriate documentation)
    • Influenza vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
    • Fit test and respiratory clearance as applicable
    • Latex allergy questionnaire if job tasks require glove use
    • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG, and other unit-specific competency exams required within 12 months of start
  • Orientation & Training: Annual education sign-off, facility-specific orientation, and safety manual acknowledgment required
  • Vendor Medical Clearance: Required for candidates with history of positive TB or symptomatic tests
  • Facility Specific: Must sign job description prior to start for assigned unit

Additional Information

  • Prior travel experience is not required; first-time travelers are accepted
  • Scrubs are provided by the facility
  • Must be able to circulate and scrub in the OR
  • Call schedule: 2 times per schedule
  • Charting system used: EPIC

This position requires a highly skilled RN with acute care OR experience, including robotic and ENT specialties, and the ability to work across multiple surgical specialties in a Level 2 Trauma Center environment. Compliance with extensive credentialing, health, and competency requirements is mandatory.
