Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Seattle, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Level III or IV NICU nurse caring for neonates at 23-24 weeks gestation.
- No ECMO cases; experience with CPAP/BiPap, High Frequency Vents, Oscillators, Vents required.
- Responsibilities include blood/blood products administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, use of cooling/warming blankets, feeding tubes, PICC/central lines, and syringe pumps.
- Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries.
- Floating is rare but may be required to other campuses or units such as Pediatrics (infants only), SCN, or NBN.
- Unit size: 77 beds with an average census of 50.
- Block scheduling available (3 or more shifts in a row possible).
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of specialty experience in NICU nursing.
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
Licensure & Certifications
- Active compact nursing license valid in Washington (honored by all Swedish facilities).
- Required certifications (must be current and from approved organizations):
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) certification (if applicable)
Floating Policy
- Acknowledgement required; may be asked to float to other Providence facilities within reasonable distance.
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually.
- Education verification required for all candidates; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report.
- State-specific background checks and registries as applicable (e.g., Washington State Patrol Search).
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
- Immunizations and health screenings required:
- TDAP (within 10 years) or declination
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccine or declination
- 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start (no instant tests).
- Respirator fit testing required for travel candidates (updated annually).
Training & Competency Requirements
- Completion of Providence WorkRamp modules prior to start, including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for NICU and related areas
- Regional core and specialty modules as assigned
- Competency exams as applicable (medication, pharmacology, fetal heart rate monitoring).
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable units.
References & Employment History
- Minimum of 2 supervisor references covering at least 1 year of employment within the last 3 years in a comparable specialty/setting.
- Employment application covering at least the last 5 years required, with explanations for any gaps or overlaps.
Additional Notes
- Travelers usually do not admit babies; admit nurse role is dedicated.
- Floating to Pediatrics is rare and limited to infants only.
- Must be open to floating to different campuses within the Providence system.
