Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Travel/Contract
Location: Seattle, Washington
Facility: Providence Swedish First Hill Campus
Job Summary
- Position: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Specialty: Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Level III or IV
- Minimum Specialty Experience Required: 3 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Unit and Patient Population
- NICU Level III or IV caring for neonates at 23-24 weeks gestation
- No ECMO cases, but experience with CPAP/BiPap, High Frequency Vents, Oscillators, and other ventilators required
- Care includes blood/blood products administration, cardioversion/defibrillation, cooling/warming blankets, feeding tubes, PICC/central lines, syringe pumps
- Attend high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgeries
- Rare floating to Pediatrics or other campuses; if floating to Pediatrics, care limited to infants only
- Unit size: 77 beds with an average census of 50
Key Responsibilities
- Provide specialized neonatal care in a high-acuity NICU setting
- Administer advanced respiratory support and critical care interventions
- Participate in high-risk deliveries and neonatal surgical care
- May float to other Providence campuses or specialized units as needed
Licensure & Certifications Required
- Active Washington State RN license (compact license accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
- Other certifications may be required based on clinical track and unit requirements (e.g., EFM, Chemotherapy certification if applicable)
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3 years of RN experience in NICU or relevant specialty
- Experience with Level III or IV NICU patients, including ventilator management and neonatal critical care procedures
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Floating Policy
- Must be willing to float to different Providence campuses within reasonable distance
- Floating to Pediatrics or other specialized units is rare and limited to infant care
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background check within 45 days of start, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
- Education verification for nursing degree
- Drug screening (10 panel) within 90 days of start
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO
- Immunizations and health documents including:
- TDAP (within 10 years or declination)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (updated annually)
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer
- Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination
- Varicella vaccination or positive titer
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination (required during flu season)
- COVID vaccine or declination
- Respirator clearance (RespSafety) required for travel candidates, updated annually
- References: Minimum 2 supervisor references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty within the last 3 years
Training & Competency Requirements
- Completion of Providence-specific WorkRamp modules including:
- Annual regulatory requirements
- Specialty-specific modules for NICU and neonatal care
- Facility-specific orientation and compliance training
- Competency exams as applicable (medication, pharmacology, fetal monitoring, etc.)
- Epic training modules may be required depending on facility assignment
Additional Notes
- Previous permanent employees of any Providence-affiliated facility must have a minimum 3-month separation before qualifying for a travel position
- Active compact nursing licenses are honored at all Swedish facilities
- Badge photo not required for this facility
- Floating policy acknowledgment required
