Description
PCU RN - Night Shift
Location: Kearney, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (1830-0630)
- Hours Guaranteed: 36 hours per week
- Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU)
- Beds: 40 beds (average daily census 24)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:4-5 (both days and nights)
- Orientation: 1 day unit-specific orientation
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract
- Floating: Required to float to MedSurg or ICU for PCU acuity patients
- Dress Code: Navy Blue scrubs
Required Experience & Certifications
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of unit experience in PCU or similar setting
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
- Competencies:
- Competent in Arterial Lines
- Ability to titrate drips (Heparin, Nitro, Dopamine, Cardizem, Amiodarone, Insulin)
- Must read and interpret telemetry strips independently
- Experience with high flow respiratory equipment troubleshooting
Patient Population & Care Focus
- Adult patients with cardiac med/surg, dialysis, cancer, vascular issues, sepsis, respiratory conditions, stroke, post stent, post pacer placement, and renal failure
- Diverse cultural populations primarily Hispanic and Somalian
- Focus on patient experience, responsiveness, communication about medications, and teamwork
Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book exam during orientation
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas
- Driver’s license required to verify candidate location within 50-mile radius
- No full-time, part-time, or PRN employment with certain affiliated facilities allowed
- Overhead lifts available in half the rooms, plus portable lifts, vein finders, and bladder scanners
- Nurse aids/patient care techs available at a ratio of 1:12
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes assignment
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
