Job Opportunity: PCU RN (Night Shift) - Omaha, Nebraska

Position Details

Specialty: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) Registered Nurse (RN)
Shift: Night (12-hour shifts, 1830-0700)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit Beds: 35
Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 (RN to patients)
Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Ratio approximately 1:10 or 2:20
Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
Holiday Requirement: Every third holiday
Call/Standby: None
Floating Requirements: May float to medical floors, ICU, or rehab units
Orientation: First week onboarding plus 1-2 days unit-specific orientation

Required Experience & Certifications

RN Experience: Minimum 2 years as an RN
Unit Experience: Minimum 1 year PCU or relevant unit experience
Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS (all required)
Prior Travel Experience: Not specified (assumed not required)

Patient Population & Care

Adults and geriatrics
Common diagnoses: Cardiac, nephrology, strokes, diabetes mellitus, continuous EEG monitoring
RNs are required to titrate drips (e.g., Cardizem, beta blockers, seizure medications)
Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment

Additional Information

Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply may result in contract termination
Exam: RN candidates must pass a 90% score on an open book skills exam during orientation to continue employment
Driver’s License: Required at submission to verify candidate is within a 50-mile radius
Radius Rule: Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
Work Environment: Fast-paced unit; success attributes include positive attitude, teamwork, good communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
Shift Scheduling: 0630-1900 (day shift) and 1830-0700 (night shift) available, but this job is for night shift only

This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs seeking a short-term night shift contract in a dynamic, fast-paced environment with a diverse adult and geriatric patient population.
