Job Opportunity: RN LTAC ICU - Travel Position

Location: Hazard, Kentucky
Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Long Term Acute Care (LTAC) ICU
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 12 weeks


Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2+ years of current LTACH experience required (highest stated requirement).
  • Must have experience working with 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratios.
  • Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.

Licenses & Certifications Required

  • Current Kentucky or compact nursing license.
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • NIH Certification (required for RN specialties except OR and Psych).
  • Nursys verification within 30 days of start.

Clinical & Technical Skills

  • Experience with Meditech EMR system.
  • Ability to work in LTACH ICU setting with 1:4 patient ratios.

Orientation & Scheduling

  • Orientation offered bi-weekly.
  • Start date on job is the start date needed.
  • Schedule is 36/48 hours over a two-week pay period.
  • RN must reside within 100 miles of the facility to be considered.

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • COVID-19 vaccine proof or approved exemption required.
  • Proof of 2 MMR vaccinations or positive titer required.
  • Proof of 3 Hepatitis B vaccine series or declination accepted.
  • Proof of 2 Varicella vaccinations or positive titer required.
  • Tdap vaccination valid within 10 years required (Td not accepted).
  • Influenza vaccine required (seasonal, October-March) or approved exemption.
  • TB Quantiferon blood test within one year prior to start required.
  • Annual physical or health statement signed by MD, DO, PA, or NP stating clear to work without restrictions.

Background & Compliance

  • Background check within 30 days prior to start, including 7-year county, nationwide criminal, SSN trace, sex offender registry, and federal exclusions.
  • Drug screen within 30 days prior to start (excluding marijuana/THC).
  • Verification of education and employment history required.
  • Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry verification required for Kentucky clinical specialties.
  • Two professional references required: one charge nurse or higher, one supervisor reference within the last year.

Competency & Skills Verification

  • Unit-specific skills checklist within one year prior to start.
  • Competency exam within one year prior to start (actual documents required, no certificates).
  • EKG and telemetry exam within one year prior to start.
  • Core competencies including HIPAA, patient rights, safety, infection control, elder abuse, cultural diversity, advance directives, etc., updated annually.

Additional Notes

  • Assignment confirmation form must be submitted within 24 hours of accepting the offer.
  • Candidates should not be submitted to more than one job at a time.

This position is ideal for experienced LTAC ICU RNs licensed in Kentucky or compact states, who meet the immunization and compliance requirements and are able to commit to a 12-week travel assignment with a structured orientation and schedule.
