Med Surg RN Opportunity - Pendleton, Oregon
Job Details
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical (Med Surg)
- Location: Pendleton, Oregon
- Contract Length: 10 weeks
- Shift:
- Nights: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (every other weekend)
- Days: 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM (every Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
- Hours: 36 hours per week
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Negotiable
- Call/Standby: If placed on low census, expected to report within 30 minutes of call
Required Certifications & Licenses
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Oregon nursing license required (90-day emergency license available)
Experience & Skills
- General medical-surgical nursing experience required
- May include general pediatric patients
- Experience with common diagnoses such as CHF, diabetic complications and wounds, pneumonia, COPD exacerbations, hip fractures, COVID-19, post-op TURPs, hip and knee replacements, cholecystectomy, appendectomy
- Infrequent titration of drips (Heparin, Bumex)
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Unit Information
- Unit: Medical-Surgical
- Number of beds: 19
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- Days: 1 RN to 4-5 patients
- Nights: 1 RN to 5 patients
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor available on both day and night shifts
- Nurse aides: 1-3 CNAs on day shift, 1 CNA on night shift
- Respiratory equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, high flow oxygen
- Telemetry monitored by CCU staff; tele board visible to med-surg staff; RNs read strips
Orientation & Training
- Unit-specific orientation: 3-6 shifts, longer if needed
- Floating: RNs not fully cross-trained expected to assist as "helping hands"; option to fully cross-train to other departments
Dress Code
- Navy blue scrubs

- Great staffing ratios; RNs usually have fewer patients than the maximum ratio
