Job Opportunity: 10E Stepdown Nurse

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia

Unit Information

• Unit Type: Stepdown/MedSurg (Flex unit serving both floor and step-down patients)
• Unit Size: 29 beds (currently under construction, opening Q1 2026)
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:

  • Stepdown: 3:1
  • MedSurg floor: 6:1
• Patient Population: Diverse, primarily medical diagnoses

Required Certifications

• ACLS (AHA)
• BLS (AHA)

Experience & Skills

• Open to new and experienced nurses
• Must be able to manage:

  • 6 patients on MedSurg floor
  • 3 patients on Stepdown unit
• RNs will have orders to titrate drips including:

  • Heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbitol
  • PCA medications: morphine, dilaudid, fentanyl
  • TPN
• Prior travel experience: Not specified (assumed not required)
• Specialty years of experience: Not explicitly stated; open to new nurses

Staffing & Support

• Charge Nurses and House Supervisors available 24/7
• Charge RNs may take patient assignments initially but goal is to have a free charge RN
• Nurse Aids (Clinical Associates) present with goal of 3 CAs per shift (ratio approx. 1:10)
• Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring; RNs not required to read their own strips

Equipment

• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, BiPAP on floor and stepdown
• HiFlow and ventilators available in stepdown (vent settings adjusted by ICU)
• Telemetry monitoring equipment by Phillips

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift Length: 12-hour shifts
• Scheduling: Block scheduling not guaranteed but requests accommodated when possible
• Weekend Requirements: Agency RN positions posted as weekend shifts
• Holiday Requirements: Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
• Call/Standby: None required
• Floating: First to float or be pulled to other floor/stepdown units
• Dress Code: Royal blue and white scrubs

Orientation

• Unit-specific orientation provided
• Weekend day shifts typically Friday-Sunday or Saturday-Monday, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM

Contract Length

• 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)

This position is suitable for nurses comfortable with stepdown and med-surg patient care, including titrating drips and working in a newly opening unit with a diverse patient population.
