Dialysis RN Travel Opportunity

Location: Williston, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Dialysis RN
  • Department: Outpatient Dialysis
  • No clinical involvement outside dialysis unit
  • Must have chronic dialysis experience
  • Willingness to read water room and use bicarbonate mixer (training provided)
  • Nephrologist onsite 2 days/month; available by phone otherwise
  • Charge Nurse supervises each shift
  • No Medical Assistants, CNAs, or Patient Care Techs; staffed with RNs and 1 LPN
  • Nurse to patient ratio: 1:3-4
  • Licensed for 7 chairs (two pods: 3 patients and 4 patients)
  • Common patient population: Adult to geriatric with catheters and fistulas

Certifications & Experience

  • BLS Certification required
  • Must have chronic dialysis experience (years of experience not explicitly stated, assume minimum 1+ year dialysis experience)
  • Prior travel experience not explicitly required

Work Schedule & Shifts

  • Varied shifts:
    • Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 5:00 AM - 5:30 PM or 9:00 AM - 10:00 PM
    • Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday: 5:00 AM - 5:30 PM, 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM, or 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM
  • Rotating weekends required
  • Every other holiday required
  • Minimum 36 hours guaranteed, but must be willing to pick up additional shifts as needed
  • Team scheduling with 2 nurses minimum on the floor at all times
  • Orientation: 3 shifts (12 hours each) with another RN, depending on experience
  • No call or standby requirement
  • Scrub color: Any

Patient Care & Equipment

  • Common medications: Heparin, Hep B vaccine, Flu vaccine, Zemplar, Ferleccit, cinacalcet, midodrine, darbepoetin alfa, PRN meds (Tylenol, Zofran, occasional antibiotics)
  • Equipment: Fresenius 2008T dialysis machines
  • EMR system: Clarity
  • ER and Code team available for patient emergencies
  • Next closest Kidney Dialysis Unit is a 2-hour drive away
  • Some patients travel up to 5 hours for dialysis

Additional Notes

  • Teamwork, motivation, compassionate care, patient safety, and infection control attention are key attributes for success
  • Must be willing to cover shifts for sick calls or emergencies as part of team effort
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities in the past 12 months
  • All requested time off (RTO) must be listed upfront on the contract; no additional RTO approvals after submission

This position is ideal for a Dialysis RN with solid chronic dialysis experience who is flexible with scheduling and committed to teamwork in a small outpatient dialysis setting.
