Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position

Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position requiring compliance with extensive credentialing, certification, and health documentation standards. The assignment is with a major healthcare system in Ohio.


Experience Requirements

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse
  • Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; default to standard RN requirements (minimum 2 years clinical practice in acute care setting as per employment application requirements).

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates. Must be current at start.

  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, and NICU.
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for other areas.
  • State License Verification: Primary source verification within 30 days of start; license must be current.
  • NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
  • NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for multiple units; must be current.
  • Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for bedside RNs (except OR). Testing completed onsite during orientation.
  • Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement: Required annually.
  • Competency Exams: Unit-specific competency exam required within 12 months of start and updated annually.
  • Core Parts I, II, III: Required and must be updated annually.

Health and Immunization Requirements

  • Physical Exam: Required within 1 year of start, including Snellen eye exam. Must confirm ability to perform essential job functions.
  • Fit Mask (N95): Required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must use approved 3M models.
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Vaccine required every 10 years.
  • TB Testing: True 2-Step PPD or QGold/TSPOT within 12 months of start; annual updates required. Chest X-Ray required if history of positive TB.
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
  • Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation required.
  • Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer required; booster if titers negative/equivocal.
  • Drug Testing: Standard 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; annual updates required. Instant drug screens not accepted.
  • Seasonal Flu Vaccination: Required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31) or approved medical/religious exemption. Declinations not accepted.
  • Eye Exam: Required within 1 year of start for new candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later.

Background and Compliance Checks

  • Background Check: Required prior to start; must include 7-year FCRA-compliant search, SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and more. Updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
  • Fingerprinting: FBI and BCI fingerprinting required within 12 months of start; must be updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite.
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG Checks: Required monthly.
  • Education Verification: Required for all candidates; international verifications require CGFNS documentation as placeholder if delayed.

Documentation and Onboarding

  • Driver’s License/State ID: Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried on assignment.
  • Photo for Badge: Required for OR Tech First Assistants and RNFAs (not applicable for RN).
  • Resume/CV: Required for OR Tech First Assistants and RNFAs with 10 years of work history; for RNs, 3 years prior work history including 2 years clinical acute care practice.
  • Online Training Modules: Must be completed prior to start; includes multiple steps and must be done on a computer using Google Chrome.
  • SafeMedicate Prep Materials: Provided for review in preparation for pass/fail exam during orientation.
  • References:
    • RNs: 2 references from employment within 1 year of start (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
    • OR Tech First Assistants and RNFAs: 4 references including 3 peer-level and 1 supervisor/physician within 2 years of start.

Additional Notes

  • Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need to update physical exam, chest x-ray, and other health documents.
  • Candidates currently on assignment with no break do not need to update annual health documents.
  • Pass/fail testing and competency exams are not required for legacy candidates with less than 6 months gap between contracts at this healthcare system.
  • Religious and medical exemptions for vaccines are reviewed on a case-by-case basis; declinations are not accepted.
  • PAPR respirators are approved on a case-by-case basis for mask fit failures due to facial hair with appropriate documentation.

This position requires strict adherence to credentialing, health, and compliance standards to ensure patient safety and regulatory compliance. Candidates should be prepared for thorough onboarding and documentation processes.
