Travel RN Opportunity - Cortez, Colorado
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN)
- Employment Type: Travel
- Shift: Night Shift (6 PM - 6 AM)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
Required Experience
- Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty (ICU/Inpatient experience preferred)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Education & Certifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (Associate degree required; Bachelor’s degree preferred)
- Current Registered Nurse Licensure in Colorado (Compact license accepted; must obtain Colorado license within 90 days)
- Current BLS Certification
- Current ACLS Certification (within 6 months of hire)
- Current PALS Certification (within 6 months of hire; excludes Family Birthing Care)
- Successful completion of EKG course (within 4 months of hire)
- Unit-specific certifications:
- ICU: Minimum 1 year ICU/Inpatient experience preferred
- Family Birthing Care (FBC): Basic fetal monitoring course and NRP certification (within 4 months of hire)
Role Summary
- Provide nursing care to patients using appropriate procedures, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.
- Assess patient data to identify clinical needs and provide care according to unit policies.
- Demonstrate clinical competence, knowledge of disease processes, and ability to identify complications.
- Utilize information technology to document and manage patient care.
- Supervise non-professional staff and assist physicians with patient care.
- Administer medications following protocols, including controlled substances.
- Participate in in-service training, departmental meetings, and quality improvement activities.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to safety and infection control standards.
- Flexibility to float to other units as needed.

- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Family Birthing Care (FBC)
- Procedural Sedation
- Antepartum, Intrapartum, and Postpartum Care (including complications)
- Rapid Sequence Intubation
- Fetal and Advanced Cardiac Monitoring
- Newborn Care (Delivery to Discharge)
- Ventilator/BiPAP management
- Trauma Alert response
- Critical drips and monitoring (CVP, A-line)
- Infant security and screening (Hearing, CCHD, Photo Therapy)
- EMTALA compliance
Skills & Abilities
- Effective verbal and written communication in English
- Strong customer service and active listening skills
- Basic computer proficiency and strong organizational skills
- Ability to work within nursing standards and hospital policies
- Ability to supervise and support team members and students
- Flexibility with working hours and shifts to meet staffing needs
Work Environment & Physical Demands
- Exposure to infectious waste, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and occasional foul odors
- Moderate to loud noise levels; possible interactions with aggressive patients or visitors
- Exposure to environmental conditions such as heat, cold, rain, snow, and wind
- Physical demands include lifting (up to 100 lbs occasionally), kneeling, crouching, reaching, talking, hearing, and visual acuity including color vision
