Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Akron, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
This is a travel/contract Registered Nurse position requiring compliance with extensive credentialing, certification, and health documentation standards. The assignment is with a major healthcare system in Ohio.
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse
- Required Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; default to standard RN requirements (minimum 2 years clinical practice in acute care setting as per employment application requirements).

Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support): Required for all candidates. Must be current at start.
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support): Required for many clinical areas including ICU, Med/Surg, ER, etc. Must be current at start.
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support): Required for PICU, Pediatric Stepdown, ERPediatric OR; preferred but not required for PACU.
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program): Required for Labor & Delivery, OB/GYN, and NICU.
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course): Required for ER; preferred for other areas.
- State Nursing License: Primary source verification required within 30 days of start. License must be current and renewed if expiring within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS Verification: Required within 30 days of start.
- NIH Stroke Certification: Preferred for many units; must be current.
- Core Competency Training: Core Part I, II, and III required and must be updated annually.
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication): Required for bedside RNs except OR; completed onsite during orientation.
Background and Compliance Checks
- Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License or State ID) required and must be carried on assignment.
- Background check required prior to start, including FCRA compliant 7-year search, SSN trace, sex offender registry, education verification, and more. Must be updated annually or after breaks in service of 2+ months.
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required.
- Fingerprinting (FBI and BCI) required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing. Fingerprints must be done under nursing-specific code (4723.09). Facility will also conduct fingerprinting onsite. Candidates may start with results pending if fingerprinting is completed prior to start.
- Drug screening: Standard 10-panel drug screen required within 12 months of start and updated annually. Instant drug screens not accepted.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start, including assessment of ability to perform essential job functions and Snellen eye exam (for candidates signing 4/11/2025 or later).
- Fit mask test (N95) required within 12 months of start and updated annually. PAPRs may be approved on a case-by-case basis.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test (2-step PPD or QGold/TSPOT) or chest X-ray if history of positive TB, updated annually
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: Titer, series, or declination documentation required
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster if negative/equivocal
- Seasonal Flu Vaccine or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (10/31 - 03/31)
- TB Questionnaire required annually if history of positive TB.
Documentation and Onboarding
- Employment application must include at least 3 years prior work history with 2 years clinical practice in acute care setting relevant to assignment.
- Two professional references required from recent employment within 1 year, from supervisors or managers (co-worker references not accepted).
- Annual skills checklist and unit-specific competency exams required.
- Completion of facility-specific online training modules prior to start is mandatory. Modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome and cannot be skipped.
- Photo for badge required for certain roles (e.g., OR Tech First Assistants).
- Acknowledgement of pass/fail testing required for all nursing positions except OR.
- Orientation and onboarding processes must be completed prior to clearance to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidates with gaps in employment longer than 40 days may need to update physical exam, chest X-ray, and eye exam.
- Candidates currently on assignment without a break do not need to update annual health documents.
- Facility accommodates latex allergies; notification required to ensure latex-free supplies.
- Fingerprinting and background checks must be kept current and compliant with facility policies.
- Pass/fail testing and competency exams are required to maintain clinical readiness.
