Nursing Contract Opportunity - State College, Pennsylvania
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Provide professional nursing care in the Emergency Department based on Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) standards. Care spans from neonate through geriatric populations. Position includes scheduled on-call assignments as needed due to fluctuating patient volumes.
Key Responsibilities
- Triage patients entering emergency care, prioritizing based on physical and psychosocial needs.
- Conduct hourly rounding in the department and half-hour rounding in the waiting room when patients are waiting.
- Document detailed nursing history including chief complaint and health status.
- Develop and implement individualized plans of care, ensuring supplies and equipment are available and functional.
- Continuously update care plans based on ongoing assessments and include discharge planning.
- Manage complications and emergencies according to facility policies and ENA standards.
- Recognize changes in patient health status and direct appropriate care.
- Document patient responses to interventions.
- Provide health education to patients and families, including treatment explanations and discharge instructions.
Required Qualifications
- Current Pennsylvania RN licensure.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), with renewal every two years.
- Valid National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
- Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
- Ability to function effectively as a team member and liaison between patients and staff.
- Demonstrated emotional tolerance, sound judgment, tact, sensitivity, and professionalism when interacting with patients, families, and coworkers.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with EPIC Computer Charting is preferred.
