Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job - Amarillo, Texas

Position Details

  • Nurse to Patient Ratio: 1:6
  • Number of Beds: 10
  • Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 out of 3 holidays
  • Locals: Not accepted (50 mile radius rule)

Experience Requirements

  • Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year in specialty
  • Prior Travel Experience: Not required
  • Epic Experience: Required within the last 6 months

Contract Length

  • Duration: 13 weeks

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - as applicable
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - as applicable
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure) - as applicable
  • CHEMO (Chemotherapy Certification) - as applicable
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
  • Management of Assaultive Behavior (MAB) - as applicable
  • NIH Stroke Certification - as applicable
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
  • Tech Cert Verification - National - as applicable
  • State License Verification (Primary source online verification required)
  • NURSYS Verification (for RN, LPN/LVN, AP)

Competencies

  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (80% score or meet/exceed Angoff score)
  • Color Blind Testing (online)
  • Competency Exam (minimum 80% passing score or higher if Angoff score is higher)
  • Core Parts I, II, III (for subcontractors; annual completion required)

Background and Documentation Requirements

  • 7-year background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM check upon hire
  • HHS/OIG check upon hire
  • Education verification (highest level)
  • Work history verification (7 years)
  • Employment application/resume required
  • Unit-specific skills checklist (annual)
  • References: Internal requirement only; not required for clearance

Health and Safety Requirements

  • Physical exam within 12 months of start
  • Fit mask test within 1 year of start (annual renewal required)
  • Adult TDAP vaccine within 10 years of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year of start
  • TB questionnaire within 90 days of start (for positive TB results)
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Hepatitis B: Positive titer, series, or declination accepted; booster if negative/equivocal
  • Varicella: Positive titer, 2 vaccines, or physician-documented history required; boosters if negative/equivocal
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 90 days of start
  • Onsite drug screen during orientation (only 1 attempt allowed; failure results in cancellation)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or agency-approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or medical/religious exemption required (declinations not accepted)

Additional Notes

  • Fingerprinting required for New Mexico placements only (not applicable here)
  • Clear headshot photo required for badge
  • Holiday time off requests limited due to holiday work requirement

This position is ideal for RNs with at least 1 year of experience, recent Epic system experience, and required certifications, looking for a night shift travel contract in Amarillo, Texas. Prior travel experience is not required.
