Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Behavioral Health (Nights)

Job Description

• Adult Forensics / Intensive Behavioral Health Unit
• Must be highly experienced and comfortable working in this specialty
• Work with a multidisciplinary team to identify individual and group needs and interventions
• Utilize the nursing process to meet complex patient care needs
• Provide clinical supervision of Mental Health Workers (MHWs) to ensure safe and therapeutic care delivery
• The program offers 24-hour care focused on co-occurring disorders, including medically assisted drug and alcohol withdrawal, stabilization, and education for recovery
• Treatment population includes patients with co-occurring psychiatric issues such as Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Anxiety Disorders, etc.
• Must be willing to float to other units and take charge shifts
• RTO (Request Time Off) blackout dates apply:

  • 2/23-2/27
  • 3/16-3/20
  • 4/27-5/8

Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years as an RN required
  • Recent adult forensics experience within the last 3 months (inpatient psych experience must be recent; LTC experience not accepted)
  • Intensive/Forensics Psych/Behavioral Health experience required
• Licensure & Certifications:

  • Active Vermont or Compact RN license required
  • American Heart Association BLS certification required
• Documentation:

  • Resume must list psych experience and all age groups worked with
  • Psych skills checklist from within the last year
  • Two supervisory references from the last 2 years of employment
  • Driver’s license or candidate’s address must be included in submission (residence within 35 miles affects rate)
• Other:

  • Must be willing to float and take charge shifts
  • First-time travelers will be considered (prior travel experience NOT required)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) training offered onsite; confirm at submission
  • RTO cannot exceed 7 days

Work Environment & Additional Information

• The facility is located in a rural area with limited housing and public transportation options; candidates should plan accordingly
• The local community offers a variety of outdoor activities and cultural amenities
• OT hours paid at regular rate; holiday and call-back hours paid at 1.25x with a minimum 2-hour call-back
• Orientation:

  • 0 hours nonbillable if CPI Blue Card is active
  • 8 hours nonbillable if CPI Blue Card is not active
• Cancellation policy allows the facility to cancel up to 3 shifts per 13 weeks

Summary

This is a specialized behavioral health RN role requiring significant recent experience in adult forensics and intensive psychiatric care. The position demands flexibility, supervisory skills, and the ability to work in a rural setting with a multidisciplinary team. Prior travel experience is not required.
