Description
Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg Telemetry
Location: Portland, Maine
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Position Overview
- Specialty: Medical-Surgical Telemetry
- Unit: Stroke Ward (R2 Floor)
- Shift Options: 7 PM - 7 AM or 7 AM - 7 PM
- Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
- Weekend Hours: Mostly every other weekend (36 hours)
- Call Requirements: None
- Float Requirements: Must be able to float to any med/surg telemetry unit
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Med/Surg Telemetry (highest stated requirement)
- Must be able to read tele strips and telemetry monitoring
- Experience with medication drips including diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, Lasix, and bumex
- Skilled in managing chest tubes, vacuum dressings, cardiac catheterizations, pacemakers
- Experience caring for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients
- Preferred: Prior experience with stroke patients
Certifications & Education
- BLS certification required
Unit & Patient Information
- Number of Beds: 37
- Patient Ratios:
- Day shift: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
- Night shift: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
- Patient Type: Medical telemetry patients, including stroke cases
- EMR System: Epic
Work Environment & Dress Code
- Team-oriented environment; looking for a team player open to feedback
- Dress Code: Follow facility dress code
- No hoodies or tight-fitting clothing
- Hair up, no fragrance, smoke-free environment
- Plugged piercings/gauges only
- No V-neck tops
Additional Notes
- No use of personal devices allowed on the unit
- Position requires strong telemetry skills and comfort with complex cardiac and stroke care
