Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg Telemetry

Location: Portland, Maine
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)

Position Overview

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical Telemetry
• Unit: Stroke Ward (R2 Floor)
• Shift Options: 7 PM - 7 AM or 7 AM - 7 PM
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
• Weekend Hours: Mostly every other weekend (36 hours)
• Call Requirements: None
• Float Requirements: Must be able to float to any med/surg telemetry unit

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of experience in Med/Surg Telemetry (highest stated requirement)
• Must be able to read tele strips and telemetry monitoring
• Experience with medication drips including diltiazem, amiodarone, insulin, Lasix, and bumex
• Skilled in managing chest tubes, vacuum dressings, cardiac catheterizations, pacemakers
• Experience caring for ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke patients
• Preferred: Prior experience with stroke patients

Certifications & Education

• BLS certification required

Unit & Patient Information

• Number of Beds: 37
• Patient Ratios:

  • Day shift: 1 nurse to 4-5 patients
  • Night shift: 1 nurse to 5-6 patients
• Patient Type: Medical telemetry patients, including stroke cases
• EMR System: Epic

Work Environment & Dress Code

• Team-oriented environment; looking for a team player open to feedback
• Dress Code: Follow facility dress code

  • No hoodies or tight-fitting clothing
  • Hair up, no fragrance, smoke-free environment
  • Plugged piercings/gauges only
  • No V-neck tops

Additional Notes

• No use of personal devices allowed on the unit
• Position requires strong telemetry skills and comfort with complex cardiac and stroke care
