Job Opportunity: CVOR Tech (Surgical Services)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Work primarily with Cardiovascular (CV) and Heart/Lung transplant cases.
- Must be able to receive pump lines from perfusion and prepare them for cannulation.
- First-time travelers not accepted.
- Weekend requirement: 1 full weekend within a 6-week call schedule.
- On-call requirement: Approximately 110 calls.
- Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays.
- Locals accepted.
- Indiana state license required (pending state license not accepted).
- National certification required: NBSTA.
- BLS certification required.
- Block schedule accommodation to be discussed.
Required Experience and Certifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience in Surgical Services (defaulting to the higher requirement found).
- National Board Surgical Technologist Association (NBSTA) certification required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required (AHA or RQI accepted).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Neonatal Resuscitation Procedure (NRP), Chemotherapy (CHEMO), Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC), Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM), NIH Stroke Certification may be required depending on unit.
- Prior travel experience is required (first timers not accepted).
Work Schedule and Hours
- Guaranteed hours:
- 8 and 10-hour shifts totaling 40 hours per week, or
- 3 shifts of 12 hours totaling 36 hours per week, or
- 4 shifts of 12 hours totaling 48 hours per week.

Licensing and Compliance
- Indiana RN travelers in Perioperative/OR, Allied, and Ambulatory RN roles are exempt from the Indiana RN restriction effective 11/30/2024.
- Must have an active Indiana state license prior to start.
- Background checks required within 90 days of start, including:
- 7-year residential/work history verification
- SSN trace, county criminal, statewide, national sex offender, FACIS Level III
- Education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months of start.
- Physical exam within 12 months of start.
- Fit mask test within 12 months of start (specific approved respirators required).
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
- Hepatitis B series, titer, or signed declination required
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
- Color blind exam required (Ishihara or equivalent, 100% minimum score).
Additional Requirements
- Minimum of 2 professional references from recent employment within 2 years, with supervisory titles.
- Current employment application with full work history and explanations for gaps over 30 days.
- Skills checklist completed within 12 months and annually thereafter.
- Completion of facility-specific orientation, compliance, confidentiality, and safety forms prior to start.
- Completion of mandatory RRT modules if applicable (for RRT candidates only).
- Medication/pharmacology competency exam and unit competency exam required.
Notes
- Candidates must be able to work in a high-acuity surgical environment with complex cardiovascular cases.
- Must be prepared for on-call and weekend work as specified.
- This position is not open to first-time travel healthcare workers.
- Indiana state license and NBSTA certification must be current and in hand before starting.
