Position Overview

A hospital in Central Nebraska is seeking a traveling Med-Surg RN with orthopedic experience. The nurse will work 12-hour night shifts and must be experienced in both general medical-surgical nursing and orthopedic care.

Requirements

• Specialty: Med Surg / Ortho RN
• Years of Experience: Not explicitly stated; assume at least standard experience for Med Surg / Ortho RN roles (minimum 1+ years recommended)
• Certifications: BLS required
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
• Driver’s License: Required at submission; used to verify candidate is outside a 50-mile radius
• Fingernail Policy: Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care departments; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
• Orientation: 1 day of unit/department-specific orientation
• Exam: RN’s must pass a 90% score on an open book skills exam during orientation

Unit Details

• Department: Med Surg / Ortho
• Beds: 22 (average daily census of 6)
• Nurse:Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Patient Types: Total knee replacements, total hip replacements, ankle replacements, total shoulders, spine (back and neck) surgeries
• Charge Nurse: Present on each shift and takes patient assignments
• Nurse Aids/Patient Care Techs: Yes, ratio 1:13
• Telemetry: Tele techs read and interpret strips; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry
• Drip Titration: RNs are not required to titrate drips
• Common Drips: Pain medications, antibiotics, blood

Scheduling & Work Conditions

• Shift: 12-hour nights (1830-0630)
• Scheduling: Self-scheduling with cyclic rotation
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday Requirement: Rotate with permanent staff
• Floating: May float to MedSurg, rehab, or PCU with MedSurg acuity
• Blocked Scheduling: Not approved unless weekends only
• Duos: Not accepted if requesting the same schedule or sharing a car

• Successful nurses on this unit are team-oriented, flexible, take ownership, help teammates, and have a willingness to learn
• Radius rule: Candidates must live outside a 50-mile radius and cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity)
• Return to Office (RTO) is required within 7 days or less per 13-week contract; no additional RTO extensions will be approved
