Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist

Location: Princeton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

Seeking a Licensed Respiratory Therapist with a minimum of 3 years of experience. The role involves working across a variety of inpatient units in a community hospital setting, primarily with adult patients but also some pediatric exposure.

Required Experience & Skills

• Minimum 3 years Respiratory Therapy experience (ER, ICU, Inpatient Adult required; Pediatric experience preferred but willing to train)
• Experience with:

  • Ventilator management (Puritan Bennett 840, Hamilton C1, Avea)
  • ABG draws and analysis
  • BiPAP, CPAP (including infant vents/CPAP)
  • Resuscitation (NRP, PALS)
  • EKGs (inpatient and outpatient)
• Ability to assist with intubation (independent intubation not required)
• Comfortable managing up to 8-9 ventilators simultaneously in ICU
• Able to perform arterial line placements
• Experience with respiratory treatments, vent management, and EKGs in inpatient and emergency settings

Certifications Required

• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified
• Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) via NBRC required; RRT preferred
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
• STABLE Certification

Work Environment & Schedule

• Facility has 127 inpatient beds
• Department staffing: 7 RTs during the day, 5 RTs at night
• Typical workload: 40-70 treatments per therapist per day
• Shifts: 12-hour shifts, either 06:45-19:15 or 18:45-07:15
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (option to work weekends only may be available)
• Holiday requirement: Work on Christmas and New Year's if scheduled
• No call or standby call required
• Floating within the facility only
• Dress code: Professional scrubs (any color), professional appearance, no long nails, men must be clean shaven

Patient Population & Coverage Areas

• Primarily adult patients, with some pediatric and neonatal patients in birthing unit (no C-sections)
• Coverage includes all inpatient areas, Emergency Department, inpatient and outpatient EKGs, outpatient bronchoscopies
• Sleep Lab, Pulmonary and Cardiac Rehab areas do not require traveler coverage

Orientation & Support

• Orientation includes general hospital orientation, classroom modules, and approximately 3 days of shadowing with a preceptor
• Travelers start on inpatient units and may expand to other areas
• Lead therapist or supervisor available for support and questions
• Skills assessment conducted onsite to ensure appropriate assignments

Additional Notes

• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
• Facility requires submission of an unexpired driver’s license
• Licensing issues must be disclosed at time of submission
• No critical care transport outside the facility required
• Hospital has an open ICU with 2 pulmonologists and 24/7 hospitalist coverage

This position is ideal for experienced Respiratory Therapists comfortable in a fast-paced inpatient environment with a variety of patient populations and respiratory care responsibilities.
