Job Opportunity: ER Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Parkersburg, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Overview

Seeking experienced ER RNs to support a traveler-friendly facility for a 13-week contract. The emergency department has 44 beds including 3 trauma bays and a fast track area. The unit manages a high volume of patients, averaging about 135 per day, with a mix of low to high acuity cases.

Required Certifications

• BLS (AHA)
• ACLS (AHA)
• PALS (AHA) or ENPC
• NIHSS
• TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - Required

Experience Requirements

• Specialty: ER Nursing
• Required Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year (implied by travel contract nature and specialty)
• Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required

Unit Details

• Patient Acuity: Mix of low to high acuity, including behavioral health patients
• Patient Ratios: 1:4 in most areas; can be 1:5 based on acuity
• Common Diagnoses: Belly pain, chest pain, altered mental status, behavioral health issues
• ED Physicians/Mid-Levels: Low acuity areas managed by PAs during the day
• Support Staff: PCTs, unit secretaries, house sitters (PCTs may perform certain tasks like straight sticks and Foley catheter care)
• EMR System: Epic

Work Environment & Scheduling

• Shifts: Various 12-hour shifts including days, evenings, nights (7a-7p, 9a-9p, 11a-11p, 2p-2a, 7p-7a)
• Scheduling: Moving to self-scheduling soon; flexible scheduling available
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
• Holiday Requirement: Only if no permanent staff available
• Call/Standby: Call schedule applies to permanent staff only; travelers are not required to take call
• Floating: No floating outside the ER

Orientation & Additional Notes

• Orientation: 2-3 shifts specific to the unit
• Dress Code: Black scrubs; scrub jackets allowed but must be actual scrub jackets (no hoodies or sweatshirts)
• Other: Must be a team player, assist with stocking rooms, and manage boarded patients in flex areas as needed

Summary

This is a 13-week ER RN travel assignment in a busy emergency department with a diverse patient population. The role requires current ACLS, BLS, PALS/ENPC, NIHSS, and TNCC certifications. Flexible scheduling and a supportive team environment are offered. Prior travel experience is not required.
