Job Opportunity: PICU Registered Nurse
Location: Charlotte, North Carolina
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
Seeking a Registered Nurse for a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) with a focus on neurology post-operative care. The unit manages a variety of patient diagnoses including respiratory, neurosurgery, hematology/oncology, excluding cardiac surgery and dialysis.
Required Qualifications
- Specialty: Registered Nurse with PICU experience (PICU experience is mandatory)
- Years of Experience: Minimum 2 years in nursing (including PICU experience)
- Traveler Experience: 1st time travelers accepted if they meet the 2-year experience minimum
- Certifications:
- BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
Preferred Skills
- Neurology experience
- Chemotherapy administration
- IV placement and lab draws
Work Details
- Patient Age Range: 0-17 years
- Unit Size: 8-10 beds
- Patient Ratios: Typically 1:2 based on acuity, sometimes 1:3
- Shift: 12-hour night shifts (18:45 - 07:15)
- Hours: 36 hours can be offered
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Float Requirement: Float as needed
- Call Requirement: None
- Return to Office (RTO): Not allowed after booking; max 7 days for auto offer
Patient Diagnoses
- Respiratory issues
- Neurosurgery cases
- Hematology/Oncology
- Excludes cardiac surgery and dialysis patients
Scheduling
- Scheduler works with travelers to accommodate preferences
- Every other weekend scheduling with attempts to fill schedule gaps
Dress Code
- Scrubs not provided
- Peds-friendly tops with navy blue pants or navy
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks within 6 months required
- Drug testing (9-panel) within 6 months required
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year required
- Required immunizations and titers: Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season
- Physical exam and health documents per travel healthcare standards
- Various competency exams including medication, dysrhythmia/EKG (with remediation process if needed)
- Education verification and licensure verification required
- Photo for badge (passport style, solid white background) required promptly after signing contract
- Completion of facility-specific orientation and safety training modules required
- Confidentiality agreement and hospital policies acknowledgment required
Additional Notes
- Prior travel experience is not required; 1st time travelers are accepted with 2 years of experience
- Float requirement means flexibility to work in other units as needed
- No call responsibilities
- Strict policy on Return to Office (RTO) and call-offs; excessive RTO may lead to cancellation
