Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (ER) - Travel/Contract
Location: La Plata, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks (will consider up to 26 weeks)
Start Date: March 9, 2026
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 8:30 AM)
Schedule: Every other weekend required; holidays as scheduled
Patient Population: All ages (infant to geriatric)
Unit: Emergency Department (ED)
Patient Load: 47 beds, average daily census 130, nurse-to-patient ratio 1:4
Work Environment: Fast-paced ED with complex and varied diagnoses
Floating: Required within specialty
On-Call: No pre-scheduled on-call requirements
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse in Emergency Department
- Years of Experience Required: 2 years preferred; will consider 1 year with strong ER skills
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required; first-time travelers with strong ER experience are welcome
Licenses & Certifications Required
- Maryland RN State License
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA only, must include eCards with eCodes, valid at start date
- NIH Stroke Certification (required for ED staff)
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) - as applicable
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., NRP, TNCC, CHEMO, EFM)
Compliance & Documentation
- I9 or Attestation
- Government Issued Photo ID
- Background checks including 7-year criminal search, SSN trace, nationwide checks, education verification
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start
- Employment application/resume within 30 days of start
- Work history verification for previous 5 years (attestation accepted)
- Two supervisory references within 1 year of start
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start (including Latex Screen)
- Fit mask test within 1 year (3M N95 1860 respirator preferred)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray per Maryland requirements, updated annually
- Immunizations or proof of immunity for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (positive titer or declination accepted, series not accepted)
- Varicella
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (required if working with children; not required for ER unless pediatric ER)
- Negative drug screen (9 or 10 panel plus Fentanyl) within 30-45 days prior to start
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (Oct-Apr)
- COVID-19 vaccination not required for this location, but exemptions accepted if required elsewhere
Competency Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score 80%+) within 1 year of start
- Color Blind Testing (required for all candidates)
- Age Specific Competency Exam (score 80%+)
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (score 80%+) for applicable units
Additional Notes
- Candidates must complete facility-specific documents such as confidentiality agreements, computer system agreements, and dress code review prior to start
- Portfolio Epic training test-out form may be applicable for new hires with prior Epic experience
- Badge photo required (passport style with solid background)
- Floating within specialty required
