Description
Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Position Overview
- Night shift ICU RN position
- 12-hour shifts, 36 hours guaranteed per week
- Nurse:Patient ratio typically 1:2; medical patients 1:5; PCU 1:4
- Common patient diagnoses: COPD, pneumonia, CVA, TIA, DKA, sepsis, CHF, STEMI, neurological cases
- RNs are required to titrate drips including vasopressors, insulin, TNK, heparin, IV antibiotics, sedatives
- 24/7 critical care coverage with hospitalist and intensivist in-house; E-ICU staffed 24/7 with nurse and APRN
- RNs must read and interpret telemetry strips
- Floating required to PCU and medical floors
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of ICU/unit experience (highest stated requirement)
- Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS required
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail open book skills exam during orientation
- Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required
- Must have a valid driver’s license at time of submission
- Fingernail policy: Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply results in contract termination
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full time, part time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within a 50-mile radius
Schedule & Orientation
- Shifts: 0630-1900 and 1830-0700 (night shift)
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: Varies based on unit needs
- Orientation: First week includes system orientation and onboarding; 1-2 additional 12-hour shifts of unit-specific orientation
- Schedule managed by unit scheduler (no self-scheduling)
Additional Information
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
- Nurse aides/patient care techs support the unit (1 tech up to 20 patients, 2 techs up to 24 patients)
- Respiratory therapy equipment includes vents and BiPAPs; RNs troubleshoot as needed
- Return to work (RTO) required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO approvals
This position is ideal for experienced ICU nurses seeking a structured night shift role with comprehensive critical care support and a defined orientation process.
