Description

Job Opportunity: RN - Med Surg Telemetry (Travel)

Location: Farmington, New Mexico
Facility: Surgical Inpatient Unit (3rd floor)
Trauma Level: Level 3 Trauma Center (often cares for Level 1 and 2 cases)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7 PM - 7 AM)
Weekly Hours: 36 hours guaranteed
Weekend Requirement: At least 3 shifts per 4-week schedule
Call Requirements: None
Number of Openings: 1


Unit & Patient Population

  • Unit: Surgical Unit (24 beds)
  • Patient Ratios: Maximum 1:6, with admits and discharges throughout the shift
  • Patient Population: Adults aged 18 to 100+
  • EHR System: Cerner
  • Equipment: IV pumps, vital signs monitors
  • Float Requirements: May float to Medical, Nephrology, Inpatient Rehab, Cardiology (lower acuity patients), Med/Surg, and Pediatrics (adult patients only)

Role & Responsibilities

  • Position: RN / Charge Nurse
  • Specialty Focus: Orthopedic and Neurosurgery post-operative care, with additional support in Medical and Nephrology as needed
  • Common Diagnoses/Treatments:
    • Post-operative care for ortho/neurosurgical/abdominal surgeries
    • Management of NG tubes, chest tubes, Foley catheters, TURPs
    • Respiratory issues, diabetic care, sepsis, alcohol withdrawal
    • Rib fractures, altered mental status, pain management
  • Patient Care: Provide high-quality care following all facility policies and guidelines

Requirements

  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Certifications: BLS required
  • Experience: Minimum 2 years in specialty (Med Surg / Ortho / Neuro Surgery)
  • Skills:
    • Post-operative patient care experience as described above
    • Strong customer service and patient experience skills preferred
  • Additional:
    • Must have at least a 3.2 overall rating on skills checklist
    • Block scheduling considered on a case-by-case basis
