Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - ER/Medsurg Swing
Location: Breckenridge, Minnesota
Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
Specialty & Experience Requirements
- Specialty: ER/Medsurg Swing
- Required Experience: Minimum 2 years ER experience plus previous Medsurg experience (use higher value if discrepancy)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not explicitly required
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) preferred but not required
Work Environment & Unit Details
- Department: Emergency Room (ER)
- Trauma Level: Level IV
- STEMI Receiving: Yes
- Stroke Center Designation: Yes
- Beds: 4 beds and 2 trauma bays
- No Fast Track area
- ER holds intermixed within ER
- Separate Psych/seclusion rooms available
- Security: Not in-house 24/7 and not housed in ER
- Average Patients Treated per Day: Approximately 10
- ED Physician staffed on shift
- Charge Nurse present each shift and takes patient assignments
- Nurse aids/EMT/Paramedics/Patient Sitters: On call
- Respiratory Therapist (RT): Not 24/7 in ER; RNs troubleshoot RT equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow)
- Tele/Monitor Techs: None; RNs read their own cardiac strips (Mindray monitors)
- Lab draws done by lab staff, not RNs
- X-Ray/CT available with transport
Scheduling & Shifts
- Shift Type: 12-hour shifts, rotating days and nights (7a-7p, 7p-7a)
- Scheduling: Will consider block scheduling
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (EOW)
- Holiday Requirement: Yes, if it falls within blocked schedule
- Call or Standby: None
- Floating: Required to float to Med/Surg and Swing bed units on the same floor
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
- Orientation: Unit/department-specific orientation for 1 shift (12 hours)
Additional Notes
- Radius Rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and may not have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI and Dignity) within the past year
- Return to Office (RTO) needed upfront; no additional RTO approvals after submission
This position is suitable for experienced ER nurses with Medsurg background looking for a rotating shift assignment in a Level IV trauma center with stroke and STEMI capabilities.
