Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Medical Surgical)
Location: Winfield, Kansas
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Details
- Length: 13 weeks
- Start Date: ASAP
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (3x12s)
- Weekends: Every other weekend required
- Ratio: 1:6
Experience Requirements
- Specialty: Registered Nurse - Medical Surgical
- Minimum Years of Experience: 2 years
- Prior Travel Experience: Required (No first-time travelers accepted)
Licensure & Certifications
- License: Kansas RN license or compact license (must be active, no pending)
- Certifications Required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- NIH
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- CPI preferred but not required
Skills & Clinical Competencies
- Gastrointestinal: Colostomy care and management, feeding tube care and management
- Genitourinary/Renal: Renal failure management
- IV Therapy: Accessing/managing ports, blood product administration, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, starting and maintaining IVs
- Medications: Heparin, Insulin, managing cardiac drips (no titration)
- Neurological/Psychiatric: CVA, substance withdrawal
- Respiratory: CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABGs, nasal cannula, oral suctioning, oxygen administration
- Isolation Precautions
- Wound Care/Wound Vac
Additional Requirements
- Locals allowed at the same rate
- No radius restriction
- Must be able to jump in after the second shift (Critical Access facility)
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Proof of I9 or attestation
- Government issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service)
- Proof of E-Verify or attestation
- Residency Declaration Form (if working on a compact license)
- Background checks: 7-year criminal check within a year of start, updated annually, including SS trace, counties, nationwide, sex offender, and education verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for every contract renewal
- Education verification and transcripts/diploma for highest level of education
- State-specific exclusion listing check (Kansas Medicaid)
- NURSYS verification for all RNs
- Competency exams including medication/pharmacology competency
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission training)
- Physical exam updated annually, attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually
- Immunizations or titers for:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug testing: 9 or 10 panel drug screen within last 12 months, updated annually
- Flu vaccination documentation required year-round (declination accepted for medical or religious reasons)
- Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted)
- Performance evaluations if worked with the facility or agency for over 1 year
- Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit
This position is ideal for experienced travel nurses with a strong background in medical-surgical nursing and the required certifications, ready to work night shifts in a critical access hospital setting.
