Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse

Location: Jersey City, New Jersey
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • 13-week contract assignment
  • Call 2 times per schedule
  • Must be able to circulate and scrub during surgeries
  • Required experience: Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience (highest requirement)
  • Experience required in robotic and ENT surgeries
  • Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required
  • Patient mix includes all OR specialties except open heart surgery
  • Facility is a Level 2 Trauma Center
  • Charting system used: EPIC
  • Scrubs provided
  • First-time travelers accepted

Certifications & Licenses Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA required, RQI and instructor cards acceptable
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for adult critical care units, ED, MS/Tele, Outpatient Surgery, PCU, L&D, and preferred for Behavioral Health
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, Mother-Baby, NICU, Nursery, Antepartum, and Special Care Nursery
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ED, Outpatient Surgery, PACU, PICU, and Pediatrics
  • CHEMO Certification – Required as applicable for chemotherapy administration
  • EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Beginner and Intermediate levels required for Mother-Baby and Labor & Delivery RNs
  • State RN License – Must be valid and verifiable
  • NURSYS Verification – Required as applicable
  • Other certifications may be required depending on specific unit assignments

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years of current acute care or OR experience
  • Robotic and ENT surgical experience required
  • Experience in ortho, vascular, general, thoracic, and neuro surgeries required

Prior Travel Experience

  • Not required; first-time travelers are accepted

Job Responsibilities

  • Circulate and scrub in the operating room
  • Work across multiple surgical specialties (except open heart)
  • Participate in call schedule (2x per schedule)

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history
  • Work history verification (minimum 1 year prior to start date, with gaps ≤30 days)
  • Skills checklist for scrub and circulate skills (must be submitted and updated annually)
  • Background check within 30 days of start, including aliases and multiple search levels
  • Drug screen within 30 days of start (10-panel urine test)
  • Physical exam within 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
  • Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption (annual requirement)
  • Fit test and respiratory medical clearance prior to start (on-site fit testing mandatory)
  • Color blindness exam if job tasks require color discrimination
  • Annual education sign-off and facility-specific orientation requirements
  • Pass/fail competency exams including medication test, dysrhythmia/EKG, and pharmacology
  • References: 2 within last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference

Additional Notes

  • Must submit proof of all required certifications and licenses before start
  • Must complete facility-specific documents and attestations prior to start
  • Facility provides scrubs and uses EPIC for charting
  • Candidate must be able to work in a Level 2 Trauma Center environment
  • Floating policy applies for transfers between sites within the system
