Facility & Unit Overview

• 95-bed, Joint Commission-accredited acute care facility
• Detox Unit with 13 beds
• Patient population ages 18 to geriatric (occasionally 17-year-olds)
• Patient ratio: 1:7
• Equipment includes IV pumps, Zoll monitor, IV catheters
• Electronic Health Record (EHR) system: HMS/Medhost

Position Details

• Specialty: Medical-Surgical Detox (MS-Detox)
• Experience with CIWA (Clinical Institute Withdrawal Assessment) and COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale) preferred
• Shift: See shift details (not specified)
• Weekly guaranteed hours: 36 hours
• Weekend hours: Every other weekend and as needed
• Call requirements: No call required
• Float requirements: May be required to float to other departments as needed (not standard)

Required Qualifications

• Licensure: Registered Nurse license in Tennessee
• Certifications required prior to start: BLS, ALS, PALS (additional certifications may be required by client)
• Years of experience: Preferred 5+ years in specialty; minimum acceptable 3+ years
• Prior travel experience: Not explicitly required

Skills & Experience

• Must have skills: Patient care of all ages, bedside shift report, IV access
• Preferred skills: Assisting with bedside procedures such as PICC lines/midlines, CIWA/COWS assessments
• Common diagnoses and treatments:

  • Substance abuse, polysubstance abuse, ETOH (alcohol) withdrawal
  • Behavioral health conditions
  • Hypertension, syncope, seizures, liver disease, cognitive changes, high fall risk
  • Treatments include valium tapers, Subutex, Vivitrol, banana bags, rescue medications, early/one-time doses, routine and home meds

Work Environment & Expectations

• Orientation held weekly on Mondays
• Must be located 60 miles or more from facility to qualify as travel
• Tennessee Abuse Registry check required prior to assignment start
• Education expectations to be completed during contract
• Required audits and processes include bedside shift report, briefs, debriefs, and unit checks
