Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) - Med Surg (Days)

Location: Des Moines, Iowa
Employment Type: Temporary
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Job Description

• Work 36-40 hours per week; overtime billable after 40 hours
• Required to float across multiple campuses within the system
• Unit details:

  • Bed size: 30
  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:4-5
  • Patient types: hip/knee replacements, mastectomies, abdominal surgeries
  • Experience with drips including PCA and Heparin required
• EMR system: EPIC

Requirements

• Experience:

  • Minimum 24 months (2 years) of Medical Surgical (MS) experience in a hospital or medical center setting (required)
  • Post-op surgical experience highly preferred
  • Patient care experience with hip/knee, mastectomies, and abdominal surgeries highly preferred
  • PCA and Heparin drip experience required
• Licensure:

  • Active Iowa RN license or compact/multistate license at time of submission (required)
• Certifications:

  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification from AHA or ARC (required)
• Other:

  • Skills checklist specific to Medical Surgical discipline (required)
  • Driver’s license (required)
  • Professional references or performance evaluations within the last 24 months preferred
• EMR Experience:

  • Experience with EPIC electronic medical records system (required)
• Travel Experience:

  • Willing to consider first-time travelers (prior travel experience not required)

• Orientation date is firm
• Overtime and holiday pay multipliers apply
• Call back and on-call pay available

This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg RNs with strong post-op and PCA/Heparin drip skills, comfortable working in a fast-paced hospital environment with a variety of surgical patients.
