Job Opportunity: Cardiac Stepdown RN
Location: Cheyenne, Wyoming
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
Seeking an experienced Tele RN for a 13-week assignment in a cardiac stepdown unit near the Colorado border. The unit is a 24-bed cardiac stepdown/telemetry floor with a focus on high acuity cardiac and cardiothoracic surgical patients.
Unit Details
- Beds: 24
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 1:4
- Nights: 1:4-5
- Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM - 6:45 PM)
- Scheduling: Block scheduling and self-scheduling allowed, more flexibility on nights
- Weekend Requirements: Every other weekend or 4 weekend shifts per month, flexible
- Holiday Requirements: Rotation every other holiday (New Year's, 4th of July, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Memorial Day, Labor Day)
- Call/Standby: None
- Floating: Possible, as part of permanent staff rotation
- Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs
Patient Population & Common Diagnoses
- Pre/post cardiac procedures including femoral and radial heart caths
- Cardioversions on the floor
- Cardiothoracic patients, post-thoracotomy (directly from PACU)
- CABG patients (24 hours post-op)
- Stents, post PCI, vascular procedures
- NSTEMI patients
- Patients with trachs (home vented, bipap, cpap) and chest tubes
- Pacemaker wire removal typically done in ICU
Required Experience & Skills
- Specialty: Cardiac Stepdown / Telemetry
- Years of Experience: Must be experienced with pre/post heart patients including stents, pacemakers, ICDs, CABG, and vascular procedures (higher years of experience requirement applies if conflicting data)
- Experience with titrating drips (some drips titrated, some not)
- Familiarity with common drips: Cardizem, amiodarone, dopamine, nitro, dobutamine, integrelin
- Ability to work with monitor techs who handle monitoring and documentation; RN does not need to be an expert in telemetry strip reading
- Experience with bipap, cpap, and home vents helpful but home vent experience not required
Certifications Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- NIHSS preferred but not required
Orientation & Additional Notes
- Unit-specific orientation: 2-3 shifts
- Preference for stepdown nurses over telemetry nurses due to high acuity surgical cardiac patients
- Permanent address must be at least 25 miles from the facility location
Summary
This is a challenging and rewarding assignment for experienced cardiac stepdown RNs who are comfortable managing complex cardiac and cardiothoracic patients in a supportive team environment with flexible scheduling options.
