Job Summary
The Registered Radiologic Technologist provides patient care specifically within the Heart & Vascular Institute. The role involves assisting physicians during invasive cardiology and radiology procedures, administering contrast materials, and ensuring patient safety and comfort throughout procedures.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer contrast material via existing IV line or by performing venipuncture and IV placement.
- Recognize and respond to hypersensitivity or allergic reactions.
- Assist with inventory and supplies management.
- Verify patient and chart identification, diagnosis, and treatment position.
- Compile clinical information such as lab and pathology results.
- Assist in training new staff as needed.
- Document procedures accurately and completely.
- Explain procedures to patients and provide comfort, support, safety, and confidentiality.
- Inform procedural nurse of medication doses, radiation, and sponge/sharp counts.
- Perform on-call duties and variable shifts as assigned.
- Maintain sterile field during procedures and pull supplies as needed.
Department-Specific Duties
- Administer and withhold contrast and treatment appropriately.
- Assess patients for allergies.
- Perform peripheral vascular work, venous central lines, tube changes, embolization (venous and arterial), and venous thrombectomy.
- Experience with interventional neurology preferred.
- Dialysis-related procedures including AV fistulas and catheter care.
- Tube access and changes (G-tube, Chole, Neph, Biliary, Abscess, SPC).
- Neuro procedures (cerebral arterial/venous, kyphoplasty) are ideal.
Required Skills & Experience
- Ability to learn and retain patient care and procedural information.
- Effective communication and ability to follow directions accurately.
- Compassionate and caring demeanor.
- Manual dexterity for handling small supplies.
- Previous radiologic technology experience in a procedural setting preferred.
Education & Certifications
- Required Education: Associate's Degree in a related field OR Certificate in Radiologic Technology.
- Required Certifications:
- BLS (American Heart Association)
- ACLS (American Heart Association)
- IEMA Radiography License (Illinois)
- Radiography (R) (ARRT)
Experience Requirements
- Years of specialty experience: Not explicitly stated; assume minimum experience consistent with a "Rad Tech 2" level position.
- Prior travel experience: Not required.
