Job Description
- Perform the nursing process as the basis for patient care.
- Provide direction and oversight to licensed and non-licensed staff.
- Assess patient care needs, develop and continually reassess plans of care in collaboration with an interdisciplinary team.
- Coordinate nursing care with physicians for individuals and groups.
- Assist in teaching patients and families, provide milieu management.
- Communicate and educate patients’ families/significant others regarding discharge and aftercare planning.
- Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients and staff in individual and group settings.
- Document, report, and verify all necessary information according to policies and procedures.
- Monitor and report any potential safety risks to physicians.
- Maintain professionalism and promote positive relationships with coworkers and other departments.
- Provide care in diverse clinical settings with varied patient populations.
- Function as a clinical leader by delegating and coordinating staff assignments and promoting staff development.
- Utilize and review patient care protocols, standards of practice, and standards of care; contribute to process improvements.
- May train direct care staff and oversee medication and physical health activities indirectly.
- May be responsible for scheduling, staffing, and obtaining pre-authorizations.
- Role model the organization’s mission and values through professional appearance, attitude, time management, and communication.
- Provide spiritual, emotional, social, mental, and physical support to patients.
- Support and promote a recovery-focused, person-centered approach in community residential settings.
- Maintain annual training and demonstrate competency in required programmatic training.
- May function as a charge nurse.
