Job Opportunity: RN - PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit)

Location: Houston, Texas
Employment Type: Travel Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Unit Information

  • Unit Size: 14-22 beds
  • Staff: 4-6 nurses per shift (day and night), prefer CNC-free staff and unit secretary on day shift
  • Patient Ratios: Med/Surg 4:1
  • EMR System: Meditech
  • Floating Areas: NICU Level 1 or 2 only

Typical Procedures

  • Cleft palate repair
  • Appendectomy (appy)
  • Chest tube management
  • Lumbar punctures
  • Seizure management
  • Noninvasive cardiology only
  • Neuro, ortho, general surgery, thoracic cases (thoracotomy/thoracoscopy, pectus bar implants)
  • No neurosurgery, stroke care, or foreign body removal from airway

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Required License

  • Registered Nurse (RN) License in Texas

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in PICU specialty

Work Schedule & Environment

  • 4 weekend days every 4 weeks
  • No on-call required
  • Supportive and collaborative team environment
  • Dress Code: Royal blue scrubs

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Texas
  • Minimum 1 year of recent experience in Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
  • Current PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
