Unit Details

• Unit: 3 Pavilion / 3 T - Pulmonary & Observation
• Number of Beds: 32
• Nurse/Patient Ratio: 1:6
• Common Patient Diagnoses: Respiratory conditions, medical conditions
• Patient Population: Adult and geriatrics
• Trachs: Trachs present but not vented; RN provides trach care

Required Certifications

• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)

Experience Requirements

• Med-Surg, Telemetry, Critical Drips, Trach Care required
• Peritoneal Dialysis experience preferred
• Strong cardiac background preferred
• Prior travel experience is required

Clinical Responsibilities

• RNs are required to titrate drips including:

  • Heparin
  • Cardizem (up to 15 mg/hr)
  • Lasix
  • Dopamine (low dose for renal perfusion only)
  • Amiodarone
• Monitor Techs available 24/7; Charge RNs read strips, but RNs review strips each shift
• May be asked to fill Charge Nurse role; cross-training available if interested

Support Staff & Ratios

• Nurse Aides:

  • 7 AM to 7 PM shift: 1 aide per 10 patients
  • 7 PM to 7 AM shift: 1 aide per 15 patients
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment includes: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow O2, Trach collars, IV pumps, sequential compression devices, pulse oximetry, specialty beds

Scheduling & Shifts

• Shift options:

  • Day: 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM
  • Night: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
• Block scheduling allowed with unit needs met
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (rotating schedule)
• Holiday requirement: Rotational with core staff, with some preference possible after tenure

Floating Requirements

• May float to Med-Surg units (4P or 5P) or Emergency Department to care for boarded patients
• Float pool staff float first, then rotation

Dress Code

• RN/LPN scrubs: Navy
• CNAs/Monitor Techs scrubs: Dark Grey/Pewter
• Scrubs must be solid color, no embroidery or patterns
• Approved fleece zip-ups allowed in grey, black, navy, or royal blue
• Solid undershirts allowed in white, grey, or black matching scrub top
• Closed-toe shoes required; no crocs

Orientation

• First day: General hospital orientation
• Full day nursing orientation for RNs/LPNs
• Computer training: Half day for CNAs, full day for nurses
• Two 12-hour orientation shifts with preceptor
• Abbreviated Initial Skills Checklist due within 90 days of start date

This position is ideal for experienced Med-Surg/Telemetry nurses with prior travel experience who are comfortable managing critical drips and trach care in a pulmonary observation setting.
