Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - MedSurg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Specialty: MedSurg/Oncology
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Seeking RNs with orthopedic and medical-surgical experience.
- Must demonstrate flexibility and resilience in stressful situations.

Unit Details
- Unit Type: Med/Surg Oncology
- Number of Beds: 21
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5
- Charge Nurse/House Supervisor role available
- Nurse Aids available sometimes (ratio 1:15 depending on sitter needs)
- Central monitoring with RNs responsible for noticing changes
- RNs required to titrate drips (heparin, lidocaine, TPN gtt)
- Common patient diagnoses: Medical/Surgical with specialty in post-op cancer intervention (e.g., prostatectomy, mastectomy)
- Oncology certification is a plus but not required
- Travelers will not be required to administer chemotherapy due to competency requirements
Certifications & Requirements
- BLS (AHA) certification required
- Must pass a 90% score on a pass/fail exam during orientation (open book, skills-based)
- Artificial nails prohibited in all patient care departments
- Valid driver’s license required at submittal
- Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit
Scheduling & Shifts
- 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (06:30 - 19:00)
- Weekend requirement: every 3rd weekend
- Holiday shifts: rotating schedule
- No call or standby requirement
- Floating is rare and limited to other medical/surgical units
Additional Information
- Dress code: navy scrubs
- Unit-specific orientation provided
- Good communication, accurate documentation, timeliness, and patient-centered care are essential skills
