Job Opportunity: Home Health Registered Nurse

Location: Sarasota, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 20 weeks


Job Description

  • Provide skilled home care (Medicare, Medicare Advantage, and Commercial insurance)
  • Perform 6-8 home skilled visits per day
  • Patient care includes cardiopulmonary assessment, wound care (basic wound care, ABI compression dressing, wound vac dressing), Pleurx/Aseptdrain care, foley catheter care, staple/suture removal, glucometer use, pro-time machine use, SQ/IM injections, lab draw venipuncture, IV skills, PICC line or Midline care and dressing changes, SQ port access/deaccess
  • Manage general medical diagnoses and high-risk diagnoses such as heart failure (HF), COPD, myocardial infarction (MI), pneumonia, and stroke
  • Post-operative care
  • Work hours vary based on HomeCare office needs, including:
    • Monday to Friday 8 AM to 5 PM or 9 AM to 6 PM
    • Thursday to Monday or Friday to Tuesday shifts
    • Alternating weekend shifts
  • Visits and hours are self-scheduled based on office needs

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in home health nursing (skilled home care experience required; private duty nursing experience only is NOT accepted)
  • Experience with OASIS training and documentation
  • IV skills and wound care expertise
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable car for home visits
  • COVID-19 vaccination required or exemption form on file
  • Flu shot required or declination on file; mandatory mask wearing at all times while at work

Certifications Required

  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) - Required
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted (check unit description)
  • Other certifications may be required depending on unit (PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification, mRS Stroke Certification)
  • CPI (Crisis Prevention Institute) may be required for behavioral health or ER units
  • State RN license with primary source verification
  • NURSYS verification for RN licenses
  • Stroke education CEUs (8 total) including Management of the Patient with Stroke via CE Direct (Relias)
  • Medication and competency exams as applicable (minimum 80% score)
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (100% lethal arrhythmia score) for certain units

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and auto insurance (must remain current during assignment)
  • Background checks including SS trace, county searches, nationwide, sex offender, education verification, EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG
  • Foreign equivalency evaluation if education was completed outside the USA or Puerto Rico
  • Physical exam within 6 months of start
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 10 weeks of start (or within 1 year if prior positive PPD)
  • Annual TB questionnaire completion
  • Immunizations or titers for:
    • Rubeola (Measles)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
    • Varicella
  • Drug testing: Standard 9-panel within 30 days (instant tests not accepted)
  • COVID-19 vaccination or approved exemption
  • Respirator medical clearance if respirator use is required
  • Photo for badge (professional, clear, solid background)
  • Completion of BayCare Online Learning Center modules prior to start (4-8 hours)
  • References: 2 from within the past 2 years
  • Employment application and skills checklist

Additional Information

  • Scrubs: Any solid color scrub
  • Laptop, MiFi, and portable printers provided for documentation
  • Documentation systems used: BayCare Forms, BayCare Scheduling, Ace Timesheet
  • Candidates must be able to self-schedule visits and hours based on office needs
