Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (MS/Telemetry)
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description & Requirements
- Weekend Requirement: Must be flexible; expected to work 50% of weekends during the contract.
- Floating: Refusal to float may result in contract termination. Floating may include Med-Surg, PCU, ICU levels of care.
- Precepting: Travel nurses must be willing to precept and/or have students shadow them.
- Call-Ins: Call-in shifts must be made up during the pay period or added to the end of the contract depending on FTE status.
- Charge Nurse: May be required to cover charge nurse duties with training and resources provided.
- Staffing Ratios: 1:5-6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
- Unit Focus: Cardiovascular surgical, peripheral vascular surgical, arrhythmias, endocarditis, CHF exacerbation, and overflow.
- License: Must have Indiana or Compact RN license in hand or have submitted fingerprint application.
- Locals: Local candidates are not accepted.
- Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required.
- Skillset Preferences: Telemetry and IV start skills preferred.
- Certification Required: BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support).
- Facility Type: Teaching facilities requiring compliance with additional responsibilities.
- Indiana RN Rule: Effective 11/30/2024, Indiana RNs are generally not allowed to work at these facilities except for Periop/OR RN’s, Allied, and Ambulatory RN travelers (including ENDO, IR RN, PACU, Cath Lab RN, SDS).
Required Certifications & Competencies
- Mandatory Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA or RQI accepted
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - AHA only
- CHEMO (Chemotherapy) - as applicable
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) - as applicable
- NIH Stroke Certification - as applicable
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) - per unit requirements
- Tech Cert Verification - National (if applicable)
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement (HIPAA)
- State License Verification (within 30 days before start)
- Competency Exams:
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam (not required for Techs or RRTs)
- Color Blind Testing (Ishihara or equivalent, minimum 100%)
- Unit Competency Exam
Health & Background Requirements
- Physical Exam: Completed within 12 months of start date.
- Fit Mask: Fit test within 12 months with approved respirators (3M N95 models, Honeywell N95, etc.). On-site fit testing available only as last resort.
- Immunizations & Titers:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (preferred but not required)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
- Rubeola (Measles): Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Mumps: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted.
- Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required.
- Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations or history accepted.
- Flu Vaccination: Required for 2025-26 season; no declinations accepted. Medical or religious exemptions must be approved.
- Drug Testing: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months.
- Background Checks: Must include 7 years of residence/work history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, education verification, and international search if applicable.
- References: Minimum 2 references from recent employment with supervisory titles.
- Employment Application: Must be current with explanations for any gaps over 30 days.
- Skills Checklist: Required within 12 months and annually.
- TB Questionnaire: Required and must be updated annually.
Additional Information
- Orientation & Training:
Mandatory completion of 22 required RRT modules (for RRT candidates) prior to orientation with strict deadlines. - Travel Experience: No explicit prior travel experience required.
- Other:
- Candidates must be willing to comply with all facility-specific forms and policies.
- Refusal to float or weekend flexibility issues may lead to contract termination.
This position is ideal for experienced Registered Nurses with telemetry skills who are flexible with floating and weekend shifts, and who meet the certification and health requirements outlined above.
