ICU Registered Nurse (RN) - West Virginia (Martinsburg)

Job Overview

  • Specialty: ICU (Medical ICU, Surgical ICU, Neuro ICU)
  • Unit Size: 20 beds (average daily census 16-17)
  • Shift Length: 12-hour shifts (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Schedule: Every-other-weekend required; nights Fri/Sat, days Sat/Sun; rotating holidays with preference to avoid travelers on holidays
  • Contract Length: 13 weeks

Unit Details

  • Nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1-2 in ICU, 1:3 in Stepdown

  • Charge Nurse available 24/7, acts as free charge nurse but may take patient if needed
  • No IV team; RT (Respiratory Therapist) in-house 24/7
  • Pharmacy available 24/7, on unit during day
  • Ventilators: Servo & Hamilton, managed by RT; RN may silence alarms after notifying RT
  • Drips administered via Braun IV pumps, including moderate conscious sedation
  • Common patient diagnoses: post cath lab, balloon pumps (usually assigned to permanent staff but travelers with experience may be considered), no open heart surgeries, no CRRT, some cardiac and thoracic surgery cases (thoracic surgeon onsite every other Thursday)

Orientation & Training

  • 1st day: General hospital orientation
  • 1-2 shifts of unit-specific orientation with preceptor

Additional Information

  • EMR system: EPIC
  • Scrub color: Navy blue scrubs, navy or white jacket, white or navy undershirt; natural hair color required; tattoos must be covered if distasteful
  • Monitor system: Phillips Cardiac Monitors with central monitoring station; no monitor techs on unit
  • Floating: Travelers typically do not float outside ICU unless assigned to float pool; permanent staff may float
  • COVID-19 vaccine required (with medical/religious exemption process available)
  • Driver’s license address must be outside 50 miles from facility

This position is ideal for ICU RNs comfortable with a high-acuity critical care environment, working 12-hour shifts, and meeting certification requirements. Prior travel experience is not explicitly required.
