Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Ortho)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Specialty: Orthopedic Registered Nurse (Ortho RN)
  • Unit: 38 bed unit
  • Shift: Nights (4x12 or 3x12 shifts; 18:45 - 07:15)
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • Floating: May float to other Med Surg departments as needed
  • Block Schedule: Not accommodated
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions
  • License Requirement: Must have an active Illinois nursing license (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Return to Office (RTO) Restrictions: Ideally no more than 5 days

Experience & Certifications

  • Required Specialty Experience: Minimum 2 years (higher value confirmed)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required
  • Certifications Required:
    • BLS (Basic Life Support) required
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) preferred
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Telemetry experience preferred
    • IV therapy and phlebotomy skills required (including PICC line management and starting IVs)
    • Cerner electronic charting experience preferred

Special Requirements & Notes

  • No on-call requirement
  • Guaranteed hours with some allowance for client call-offs
  • Must be able to perform core functions without restrictions
  • Physical exam, immunizations, drug screening, and background checks required as per facility policy
  • Fingerprints must be completed in Illinois 3 business days prior to start (for clinical candidates without IL license)
  • Various state-specific background checks required within 30 days of start

Required Documentation & Compliance (Summary)

  • Valid US Driver’s License or State ID
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years
  • Education verification (degree or transcript)
  • Competency exam
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start
  • Fit mask test (for new contracts)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Immunizations or titers for MMR, Hepatitis B, Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Flu vaccination or approved exemption required annually
  • Professional references (2) required for clinical candidates

This position is suitable for RNs with orthopedic experience looking for a travel contract in a Level I trauma, Magnet-recognized acute care hospital in Illinois. Night shift availability and weekend work every other weekend are required. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
