Job Opportunity: ICU Registered Nurse (Night Shift)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Details

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse - Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (Night shift)
  • Patient Ratios: Approximately 1:1 to 1:2
  • Experience Required: Minimum 2 years of ICU experience (highest requirement)
  • Prior Travel Experience: Preferred but not required

Required Skills & Competencies

  • Proficient in IV starts
  • Experience with telemetry
  • Competency with ventilators
  • EPIC documentation system experience is required

Certifications Required

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA certified
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA certified
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • All certifications must be current and AHA-approved (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable; letter of completion not accepted)

Additional Requirements

  • Background Checks: 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, NLN CNEA, or CASN)
  • Competency Exams:
    • Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (required prior to start)
    • Unit-specific competency exam
    • Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam (required within 1 year of start and updated annually)
  • Health Documents:
    • Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
    • Immunizations and titers: Tdap, MMR (Rubeola, Mumps, Rubella), Varicella, Hepatitis B
    • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year
    • Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
    • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (Oct 1 - Mar 31)
  • References: Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership
  • Employment Application and Skills Checklist: Required

Facility Policies & Compliance

  • Annual review and acknowledgment of dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies
  • Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
  • Orientation safety manual acknowledgment required annually

Notes

  • No on-call duties
  • Candidates using a compact license from states other than Ohio must complete a residency declaration form
  • Fingerprinting must be completed within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if there is a break in service over 90 days
  • Prior travel nursing experience is preferred but not mandatory

This position is ideal for ICU RNs with solid critical care experience, EPIC proficiency, and the required certifications who are interested in a 13-week travel contract working night shifts in Columbus, Ohio.
