Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (CVOR) - Newark, New Jersey
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (CVOR)
- Location: Newark, New Jersey
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift Hours: 3 shifts, 12 hours each (07:00 - 19:30)
- Years of Experience Required: 2.5 years (highest requirement)
- Prior Travel Experience: Not required (accepts first-time travelers)
- Charting System: EPIC experience required
- On-Call Requirements:
- 24-hour on-call on Saturdays or Sundays (one weekend per month)
- 8-hour on-call shift on two weekdays (either 3-11 pm or 11-7 am)
- Holiday Work: Must work 1 of 2 or 2 of 3 holidays as per unit needs
- Locals Accepted: Yes, locals accepted at the same rate
Required Licenses and Certifications
- State License: Active New Jersey or Compact RN license required at time of submission (pending licenses not accepted)
- Certifications:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) may be required depending on unit (confirm specifics)
- Other certifications may be required based on unit (e.g., NIH Stroke Certification, PALS, NRP) — check with program coordinator if applicable
Required Clinical Skills
- Cardiovascular Procedures:
- Valve replacement
- Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG)
- Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR)
- Aortic aneurysm repair
- Dissection
- Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATs)
- Work Settings: Cardiovascular Operating Room (CVOR), Hybrid Room
- Vascular Procedures:
- Endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA)
- Carotid endarterectomy
- Arteriogram, Angiogram
- Transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR)
- AV fistula
- Femoral popliteal bypass graft
Unit Details and Floating
- Scrubs: Provided
- Floating: May float to Main OR for primarily Orthopedic and General cases including:
- General surgery
- Laparoscopic surgery
- Gynecological surgery
- Robotic surgery
- Orthopedic/Neuro surgery
- Vascular surgery
- Pediatric surgery

Compliance and Documentation Requirements
- Background Checks: Criminal background check required within 30 days of start, including alias and multi-level searches
- Drug Screening: 10-panel urine drug screen required within 30 days of start
- Health Documents:
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within required timeframes
- Physical exam within the last 12 months, cleared to perform essential job functions and free of communicable disease
- Influenza vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually
- Fit test and respiratory medical clearance required prior to start
- Immunizations and titers required for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella, Hepatitis B, Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap
- Competency Exams: Medication test/pharmacology, dysrhythmia/EKG competency, and other unit-specific competency exams required within 72 hours of signing
- References: Two references within the last 2 years, including at least one managerial reference
- Work History: Employment application or resume with 7 years of work history required; New Jersey candidates require verification of at least 1 year prior to start date
Additional Notes
- Must submit scheduling requests (RTO, block, special) with screenshot confirmation prior to offer; no requests approved after offer
- Facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks
- Candidates must complete annual education sign-offs and facility-specific orientation requirements
- Floating policy must be completed for every new assignment or site transfer
- Various certifications and CEUs may be required depending on the specific unit or role; confirm with program coordinator as needed
