Description
Job Opportunity: RN (Registered Nurse) - LDRP Unit
Location: Williston, North Dakota
Specialty: LDRP RN (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum)
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Preferred: ACLS, NRP, STABLE
Experience Requirements
- Must be able to read and interpret fetal heart rate strips
- Critical thinking skills required
- Previous travel experience required
- Ability to titrate drips (pitocin, insulin, magnesium)
- Must be adaptable and able to float to Medsurg and ER as needed
Unit Details
- 15 total L&D beds (7 L&D, 8 Postpartum)
- 1 OR suite on unit for C-sections
- Approximately 58 births per month
- Nurse-to-patient ratios:
- 1:1 for patients on pitocin, magnesium, or insulin drips
- 1:3 for couplet care
- Common patient diagnoses: obstetric/neonatal cases, hypertension, gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM)
- Try to avoid delivering babies less than 36 weeks gestation
Staffing and Scheduling
- Shifts: 06:45-19:15 and 18:45-07:15
- Block scheduling only (no self-scheduling)
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday requirement: every other holiday
- Call or standby may be required depending on staffing
- Charge nurse present on each shift and takes an assignment
- Nurse aids/CNAs assist with vitals, transfers, ambulation, and paperwork
- Floating required to Medsurg and ER as needed; permanent staff usually float first
Equipment and Systems
- Telemetry monitors: Philips
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM) system: Traceview/PIP
- EMR system: Meditech
- Respiratory therapy equipment present (vents, CPAP, BiPAP, high flow), but RNs only troubleshoot, no direct management required
Orientation and Additional Notes
- Unit-specific orientation: 3 shifts
- Scrub color: maroon surgical scrubs provided on unit
- Successful nurses are adaptive, good critical thinkers, and strong communicators
- Radius rule: candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot have worked full-time, part-time, or PRN with certain affiliated facilities in the past 12 months
This position is ideal for experienced LDRP RNs with prior travel experience who are comfortable managing high-acuity obstetric patients and floating within a hospital setting.
