Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse – Mother-Baby / Couplet Care / Post Partum
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- 3x12-hour shifts
- 12 days every other week (EOW)
- Approximately 36 hours per week
- May float to units with similar acuity
Requirements
- Minimum 2 years of postpartum experience (highest required years of experience)
- BLS certification (AHA only; Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- IV certification and IV start skills
- Labor & Delivery (L&D) experience
- EPIC electronic medical record experience
- Preferred: Previous travel nursing experience (prior travel experience not required, but preferred)
Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA only
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) – Required for some units; check unit specifics
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) – Required for ER, ER OB, and ER Psych units
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) – Required for L&D, Postpartum, and OB units
- EFM (Electronic Fetal Monitoring) – Certification required; no 2-year expiration, use facility-specific expiration
- State nursing license verification within 30 days of start
- NURSYS verification for RNs
- NIH Stroke Certification – If required by unit, must be obtained within 1 year of start
- Orientation Safety Manual Acknowledgement – Required annually
Competencies
- Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam – Required prior to start
- Unit-Specific Competency Exam – Required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam – Required within 1 year of start and updated annually (except for certain excluded units and fully remote positions)
Background and Compliance
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing program graduate)
- Transcript/Diploma verification required (official transcripts only)
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Facility-specific dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting training and acknowledgment required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse Training Certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Ethics and Compliance Policies review and acknowledgment required annually for new contracts
Health Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- Immunizations:
- Measles (Rubeola) – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Mumps – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Rubella – 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer
- Hepatitis B – Titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
- Varicella – 2 vaccines or positive titer (medical exemptions reviewed)
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, THC, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
History and Documentation
- 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership; charge RN acceptable for 2nd reference)
- Employment application required (including education for nursing candidates)
- Skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Candidates may be required to float to similar acuity units
- Fingerprinting and background checks are time-sensitive and must be completed according to facility-specific instructions
- Some certifications can be renewed at the facility
- Compliance with facility-specific policies and training is mandatory
This position is ideal for experienced postpartum RNs with L&D and EPIC experience who are interested in travel nursing assignments in Ohio. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
