Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Columbus, Ohio
Specialty: Registered Nurse
Unit: 19 James Med Surg Oncology
Shift: 12-hour Day/Night or Night


Job Description

  • Oncology experience preferred but not required.
  • Patient care includes:
    • Continuous cardiac monitoring related to chemotherapy administration
    • Care for soft tissue malignancy patients receiving diagnostics, chemotherapy, and symptom management
    • Symptom management secondary to disease treatment or progression
    • Management of comorbidities
  • Heavy focus on infection prevention protocols and patient fall prevention
  • Equipment used: B450 monitors, GE telemetry system, bladder scanner, Alaris pumps, Stryker beds

Requirements

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years RN experience required
  • Certifications: BCLS required; EPIC experience required
  • Patient Ratio: 1:4
  • Must be able to float within units of equivalent or lower acuity
  • Prior travel experience preferred (not required)

  • Interpretation of dysrhythmias
  • Accessing ports
  • Arterial line management
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • IV start
  • Assist with chest tube insertion/removal
  • High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
  • Interpretation of ABGs

Contract Length

  • 16 weeks

Certifications & Competencies

  • BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - may be required depending on unit
  • Dysrhythmia/EKG Competency Exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually
  • Medication Test/Pharmacology Competency Exam required prior to start
  • Unit-specific competency exams may be required

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI/BCI fingerprinting
  • Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks
  • Education accreditation confirmation required (accredited nursing program)
  • State license verification within 30 days of start
  • NURSYS verification required
  • Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
  • Proof of fingerprint completion required (in-state and out-of-state candidates)
  • Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
  • Fraud, waste, and abuse training certificate required and must be updated annually
  • Ethics and compliance policies must be reviewed and acknowledged annually

Health & Immunization Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start stating good health and free of contagious disease
  • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12)
  • Negative TB test or chest x-ray within 1 year of start; TB questionnaire required annually
  • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) - 2 vaccines or positive titer required
  • Hepatitis B titer or 3-vaccine series (declination acceptable)
  • Varicella - 2 vaccines or positive titer required unless medically exempt
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (no pending tests allowed)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31)
  • COVID vaccination not required but strongly recommended

Additional Requirements

  • 2 professional references required (at least 1 from a manager/director or formal leadership)
  • Employment application and skills checklist required

This position offers an opportunity to work in a specialized oncology med-surg unit with a focus on complex patient care and advanced nursing skills. Prior travel experience is preferred but not mandatory.
