Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (Step Down Unit)
Location: Vero Beach, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 26 weeks (approximately 6 months)
Position Details
- Specialty: Registered Nurse (RN) - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Step Down
- Required Experience:
- Minimum 2 years in PCU
- ICU experience also required
- First-time Travelers: Accepted
- Start Date: Next applicable orientation date (3-4 weeks out)
- Shift: 3x12 hour shifts (36 hours guaranteed) or 8/10 hour shifts (40 hours guaranteed)
- Floating: Yes, within scope to all 3 hospitals within 20 miles
- Block Scheduling: Not accommodated
- Locals Accepted: Yes, locals receive same rate
- Pending License: Accepted
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
- Beds: 332 staffed beds
- Charting System: EPIC (Epic experience level 3 or 4 required)
- Scrub Color: White
- Parking: Free in unrestricted spaces
- Smoke-Free Facility: All travelers must be nicotine-free (negative 10 panel drug screen + nicotine test required)
Certifications & Requirements
- Must Have at Time of Submission:
- AHA BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
- Must Obtain Prior to Start:
- NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
- Additional Requirements:
- Familiarity with cardiac drips
- Epic experience level 3 or 4
- Time-sensitive training modules must be prioritized and completed before start
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check updated annually
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
- Fingerprinting:
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprint clearance required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting accepted nationwide)
- Drug Testing:
- Negative 10 panel drug screen plus nicotine test within 1 year of start
- Health Documents:
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year (annual updates required)
- Required immunizations or titers: Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions allowed)
- COVID-19 vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required
- References:
- 2 professional references within 2 years required for travel positions
- Performance Evaluation: Required if worked with the system over 1 year
- Employment Application: Required
Competencies & Testing
- Pass/Fail Testing (EKG/Medication) administered during orientation for RNs
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- Core HIPAA and safety training modules must be completed prior to start
- Online onboarding modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome; cannot be skipped
Additional Notes
- All requested time off (RTO) must be submitted upfront; late requests likely will not be approved
- Candidates must be nicotine-free with negative drug and nicotine screening
- Travelers will float within scope to multiple hospitals in the area
- This is a smoke-free facility
- Candidates should be prepared for time-sensitive training modules and onboarding processes that may take multiple days
